i find that flicking my stick up from my left hand then catching it by the rubber end in my right hand and swinging it backhand style into the knee area usualy has the desired effect, this can as required be followed by clubbing blows to the head arms body and genitals as you feel are suitable reasonable force defence.

And you can practise on your buddies...

It is advisable, therefore, not to hit too hard when showing the trick to a friend.

no, when i was about 13 i found i could hit a lot harder with my right hand than my left, since i use my stick in my left hand i just practiced flicking it up and catching it in my right hand, the backhand technique was simply the fastest way of hitting the target, of course once i learned to walk again i didnt realy need the stick so i kind of lost the trick untill i had to start using them again about 7 years ago, now i'm back to one and i can almost get up a flight of stairs (although i have a stairlift) of course i relearned the flick and hit just incase
