Info Protection on GC releases

Noone has posted this yet but it looks like they are protecting GC titles now
    against Viper mods!

    .----------------------------------------------------------------------.
MaxPlay Classic Games Volume 1 (C) Datel
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Publisher..: Datel Ltd. Origin..: Pal - Europe
Released...: February 8th, 2005 Format..: GCM/DVD(Mini)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Special Note:
-------------
This game disc is the first disc we have seen yet to have anti-viper
protection, at the menu the game shuts-down the drive motor and it
does not start it again before you select what game to play, this
would cause the drive to loose sync and the game to freeze...
We have cracked this and now the disc is running perfectly!

Also dumping this disc via ordinary BBA methods would have been at
best tedious as there is bad sectors scattered heavily around the
disc, aswell as the actual data being distributed oddly, however by
using our new PC dumping technology this was not a problem...

Game was full tested with Viper GC Mod-chip on Dvd-r and mini dvd.

Doesn't look like we have any problems here. I'm sure what protection will be encorperated will be removed pretty soon after.

If it were a Nintendo disc

Datel are sneaky and always follow the scene...main question is, why would they protect such a pos?

I always thought datel was hated by nintendo and sony becuase they make exploits (sort of) for their products...maybe i'm just totally wrong

Datel are nothing but a load of warez0rs / pirates....

Look back to where their life started ? Amiga / Atari Back Up Game / Hack cartridges. They probably upped piracy on those platforms back in the day, for those that didn't know where to get cracked game menus from etc. Remember, back then, there was hardly anything spread via such great things as the Internet.

From there, they've just tip toed around the illegal side of things, just keeping on the right side of the law with their Action Replay Cartridges and other spin offs.

Their products are hardly endorsed by companies like $ony / Nintendo after all, as mentioned most of their stuff works by exploiting the machines to gain access to boot etc. They may pay some sort of 'thirdy party fee' to the console manufacture but there's no way they are doing things strictly by the book, like proper developers / publishers.

Of course Datel will try and make Anti-Viper protection etc. after all, they have probably paid the Xbox Home Brew Developer behind the Cobra BIOS to make an effort to defeat the Viper mod. All he has to do is show them code that prevents Viper Mod with Cobra BIOS from working, he gets paid and the 'game crackers' get an easy crack too! It's the way it has always been!

It is only logical to think that now the GameCube protection had been defeated, that Nintendo and others will have to look at software protection now, to try and defeat domestic copying and let their titles pick up software sales at release date.

It has happened on the XBOX, region checks, media checks etc. similar will happen to GC. Look at Gran Turismo 4 (JAP) on PS2, no domestic DVD Writer can copy the disc - all $ony have to do is press every game like that, and it's game over till the 'game crackers' work out a way round it.
