Default my pc has died :(

after stupidly tryin to test the sound channels on my sound card without it correctly screwed in ... the pci card must have come loose ... i got a blue screen of death, system kinda just shutdown but i think the fans still seemed to still be going.

anyhows i turned the pc off let it rest and nothin. Not even a sound from it when i hit the power button

have i really fu(ked things up? mother board fried? psu fuse?

this at the end of my uni term aswell when i actually need to be productive on the damn thing!

Take the card out. check all the fuses simply swap tower and monitor leads and maybe you will get lucky might be psu but also might be the board as well

tried it with the card out still no luck ... if it were the motherboard surely the psu fan would still spin up? i gettin nothin when i hit the power button ... also no smell of burning it seems.

The CPU can often still continue to run even if the motherboards fried.
You might be lucky, it could be the powerpack thats knackered. A similar thing happened to me when I was messing with a PCI modem.
Try and get one of your mates to let you borrow their powerpack to check if it is that.

Worse case scenerio you could pick up a crappy motherboard from somwhere like Ebuyer for under £50 that would last you until the end of this term.

Just though drrrrr if the CPU fans running, its not the powerpack.
Sorry does sound like motherboards fried.

Does the fan run in the power supply? If you remove the PSU lead from the motherboard, and the 13A plug from the mains, then on the connector that goes onto the motherboard, connect pin 14 (Green wire) to Pin 13 or 15 (both Black wires), using a paperclip or something similar, if the power supply isnt dead, it should start when you plug it back into the mains.

fan in the psu doesnt run at all - the pc seems completely dead. might give that a go q-buster or as snow boarder says just borrow another psu. thing is tho when it happened it just blue screened. no power failure ... i turned it off. im worried now it could be cpu or mobo.

Do as Qbuster says if the board is fried it might not even be able to turn the power supply on.

On a positive note it is highly unlikely you've knackered your CPU, yeah worst case MB but there cheaper than the CPU's.

You could check the fuse in the PSU, either in a screw-in fitting on the back or you may have to open it ( in this case the fuse will probably be soldered in ).

    dudes,

tested the psu using q-busters method and it does indeed work. fan turns and my internal neon lights up.

luckily ive got my old laptop up and running so could be worse and still got the pc's on campus aswell

is there any sure way of knowing for which outta the cpu or mobo has fried?? im kinda thinkin it must be the mobo at this point.

    cheers,

    nick.
