    Default hollywood comes to nintendo

codenamed "hollywood" ati's new photorealistic graphics chipset is confirmed as the graphisc workhorse for the upcoming gamecube compatable console codenamed the revolution the hdtv capable chipset can reproduce hollywood stile movie effects in realtime to produce gams of stunning quality, linked to ibm's new "broadway" processor to ensure the revolution can more than hold its own in the next gen stakes the revolution will offer a totaly new gaming experience.

combined with its ability to connect to the gba family of consoles by cable or wireless and connection to the nds console it also has inbuilt wifi for online play as standard the wifi on the revolution will allow it to link in to the upcoming international FREE wifi network for the nds (q4 2005/q1 2006 except europe).

with its unique wireless controllers containing inbuilt touchscreens the revolution realy is taking gaming to the next level although there is still some concern that its processing power may leave it behind the xbox 2's 3core processor (but inferior graphics chip) and the quadruple "cell" processors in the blue-ray disc equipped ps3 (although its worth pointing out at this point that the cell processor comes in many versions from basic ones to use in mobile phones to super ones for use in high end pc's, the ps2 versions will fall somewhere between the two)

it's great that they're making it backwards compatible with the GC, but lets just hope that some decent 3rd parties get onboard this time or we'll be left with the same situation where it's class 1st party titles and only a handfull of anything else

with the hoped for q4 launch of the gba-e which is also supposed to be gc compatable it should extend the life of the gcn well into the next generation and with the huge support for the gameboy franchise it should also mean an improvement in the quantity of games playable on the home gcn.

I still find the idea of them launching a gba-e so soon after a DS launch quite a pisstake to be honest. They're trying to milk their fanbase dry and i've a feeling it may backfire on them. I Mean there's queues of people out there now buying DS, complketely unaware that in just a few months time they're going to be faced with a decission again on whether to buy yet another nintendo handheld, imho it's asking a bit much. They should have held off releasing the DS (my opinions on the DS are well voiced in the DS forum ) and just released the GBA2/-e or whatever once they had something really special to release.

But the DS and Gameboy are totally seperate things....so they say. Aiming to build a different user market with the DS whilst trying to keep the exsisting (gameboy) base by bringing out a new GB. Meh, will it work? i dunno!

I dont buy that "it's for different audiences" thing. They are both handheld gaming consoles, and both being relased within a year of each other from the same company, seems a little shallow to me. It's easy enough saying they are for different audiences, but please, someomne explain to me why these 2 audiences are so different? surely they're both just gamers who want to play games?

Sony do different DVD players, Nokia do different phones, Pioneer do different TV's etc etc. Why can't there be different handhelds from the same company?

    I like more choice.

Regardless of how many consoles they bring out, the new next gen console with so many features sounds amazing!

I belive that if they fail this time they will do a 'Sega', but I will be buying the next 2 consoles regardless........ but they wont fail so their is no point getting into the argument. At this time it's still in the development stages, thing can be removed/added at any point.

The Xbox 2, why have such a powerful processor with naff graphics chip? What does this acheive? It's like going out and buying a mark 1 Escort with brand spanking new 4 spoke gold alloys? Why? You have to find the happy medium between all components.

This is an argument that has been ongoing and will never die. Console's are now like religion to folks, I am in the Nintendo clan, I do have the other consoles but the only 1 I 'buy' games for is Nintendo.
    We all make mistakes sometimes

Thats very true, but once you buy a tv, thats it, you dont need to keep buying stuff for it, same with a phone etc.

but with a console, you can hardly just buy the console and thats it, you have to keep on buying, so why keep buying for the DS when it may be obsolete in just a few months' time?

Nintendo are in much better situation than Sega were. Sega just had software, one console and arcade machines. Nintendo always have the sales of the GBA and DS to fall back on if their next gen console fails (hopefully they've learned from previous mistakes and this won't happen).

the gba-e, if it is even remotly likely to exist was supposedly having a port for GBA games too, so development for that system wouldnt stop, if you think of it as a portable GC with GBA support, it sounds very appealing.

Personnally i doubt this will happen this year, maybe next, no matter how many 's abcman puts next to every reference of it, ill beleive it when i see it
