    Default Password protecting files?

Is there an easy prog/method for me to make it so you need to enter a password to open certain windows folders, as my little cousin is comming to stay, and I don't think he's quite ready for some of the stuff I've gor lurking on my hard drive.

yeh m8 there are plenty of free progs that do this.

u just simply open the prog, tell it what folders u want on lockdown and it does it. some even allow you to hide the folder completly as not to raise 'concern'.

if you arent using it for serious security then you'll find ffp (file and folder protector) is very usefull

you can selcet any number of files or folders and lock them either so they need a password to open or so they are hidden untill you unlock them from within ffp

it can set time limits on how long they remain open for to ensure they relock if you forget to do it yourself.

a handy toy, but for serious use you need either encrypted containers or an encrypted drive

Encrypted Magic Folders seems to be simple and secure:
Make any folders you choose and all the files in those folders completely invisible to others yet instantly accessible to yourself.
Your invisible folders and files can't be deleted, viewed, modified, or run. For all practical purposes they don't exist. Use Magic Folders to protect your finances, taxes, business and personal documents. Others won't know
these files exist, and they won't be able to accidentally delete or modify them either. With Magic Folders you can turn over your computer to your children or your co-workers without worrying if they'll delete, modify or view important files.

Of course, there's always WinZip or WinRaR.

Select the files/folders that you want to archive, right click and select WinRaR>Add To Archive
A dialog box will open offering you a number of features across several "tabs". The first tab is General and here you can set archive format and split volume sizes etc, while the second tab is the Advanced tab and here you can opt to set a password and choose compression levels etc.

Might I suggest creating a new account and then making the deny access to folders you dont want him to have access to . .. use NTFS ... works for everyone else ... to a degree that is ....

I would have thought this would have been the 1st suggestion ....
