hi guys, hope u can help me, iv searched through this board, but nothin iv tryed fixes my problem

firstly ill tell u want i got, its a wirless router downstairs and on my pc is a belkin 11g usb adapter, i can ftp to the xbox and network share but unable to connect to the internet through the xbox

network settings - pc
ip: 192.168.0.1
sub: 255.255.255.0
gateway - nothin, if i add anythin, my internet doesnt work
dns - nothin

xbox settings
ip addy - 192.168.0.100
sub - 255.255.255.0
gateway - 192.168.0.1
dns1 - 192.168.0.1
dns2 - 192.168.0.7

both r static, i cant download skins and media player doesnt connect neither

Firstly, try introducing yourself in the correct section.

Second, the gateway & DNS settings on the X-Box are incorrect.

Right.....

I don't see why you have such a large gap between the IP of your PC and the IP of the X-Box

Set the X-Box to the following if you are still insistent on using static settings..


IP - 192.168.0.2
Subnet - 255.255.255.0
Gateway = IP address of your router
DNS1 = Your ISP's primary DNS address
DNS2 = Your ISP's secondary DNS address

seems odd to have your default router not on 192.168.0.1
normally in any network setup the default gateway is the .1 address
well every network setup I've ever encountered.

if the router supports dns forwarding then you can use the routers IP as your DNS server too

heres hows my network is setup (briefly)

router - 192.168.1.1

PC
IP - 192.168.1.100
mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1

xbox - 192.168.1.200
mask - 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.1


if you want your routers IP, just do a tracert to somewhere on the internet

ie.
tracert uk.yahoo.com

your router should be your first hop

suppose changing your router from .1 to something else does help with security..
but I was just saying from my experience in networks, (i was a network admin for 5 years) I hadnt seen a default gateway with anything other than .1
and that was for a rather large UK company. all the routers I worked with were .1

each to their own though, wouldnt necessarily cause problems anyway.

still cant connect to xbox, but now i got a internet gateway icon syaing connected in network connections

im runnin a belkin 4port adsl router, and i havent chnaged anything in there, if that might be the problem

You've put your router onto a 2 subnet and left everything else on 0, why?
if your router is 192.168.1.1, set your pc to 192.168.1.100 and you xbox onto 192.168.1.101

set your gatewaty and dns to 192.168.1.1 as well, subnet mask of 255.255.255.0

i dont know whats wrong, if i change the lan from *.*.0.* to *.*.2.* i cant go onto the internet, it acts like there isnt a connection, but if i change it back it does, also i cant connect through media player on the box to my network, it says access denied

i tryed everything u said, but it doesnt change the error, and there doesnt seem to be any activity when i try going online with the xbox


btw im runnin unleashx as my dashboard

how is it setup

wireless router to pc and xbox pluged into (or wireless)router or
wireless router to pc and xbox pluged into pc
(how ive got mine setup)

cos if its the 2nd 1 enableing ICS (or running the home networking wizard) would do fine

(oh and on the point on ppls routers ip
my first was 10.0.0.2 2nd was 192.168.254.254 my third is 192.168.1.2)

yeah man, the routers downstairs and upsaturs i got a pc with usb adaptor, and the xbox is plugged into pc,
i couldnt use dhcp cause when i tryed, it wouldnt assign an ip to the lan, would say limited or no connectivity

ah! its a right git when that happens mate!

sounds like you have a corrupt tcp/ip ... i take it you are runnig XP?

do a seach for fixing it on microsnot support site its easy enough to fix.. then dhcp will work.

but if ur happy with static then why fix it
