i have - but what is it you want to know?

youre pretty much on your own for most of the courses (some have some study centre things, depending on the course) with the only help being the online study forums for your course(s)

when you send in a CMA make sure you get it there on time. they say as long as its postmarked before the day its meant to be there they accept it but with one of mine they said it was too late. i got a proof of postage but couldnt be arsed to go through the trouble of proving i sent it on time as it only counted towards such a low percentage of my overall mark

what kind of feedback were you looking for?

    Thanks dave208,

what did you think of the literature given? Was it fairly easy to read/understand?
I don't have broadband at home and my system is a bit old, so I don't know if it's any use me doing the online stuff?

    Thanks,
    Tommy J

I haven't done any OU studying, but my old man did, he reckons it is very good if you can discipline yourself to get the work done in your own time.

As far as literature goes, was very well put together and he passed his course easily, and is now a SUN badged engineer.

Sorry I can't be more helpfull but I don't have personal experience with OU, my old man reckons it's worth it :thumbs

yea discipline is very important as you dont have someone telling you to get on with it.

the literature (for my stuff anyway) assumed you had atleast some understanding of the subject you wanted to study. for example, if you want to do some computer courses and pick programming they assume you atleast know what programming entails and how to use a pc. if youre a thick **** they have "how to turn your computer on 101" courses you should take beforehand.

overall its a good alternative for those who dont have time/cant attend college or uni full time. if your income is below a certain level you can receive funding from the OU too

    Cheers Dave208.

The online courses are a good idea but I've only got a shit system and 56k dial-up. Do you reacon this is going to cause a problem if I do an on-line course? (although I do have access via my work PC at the mo.

I saw on the news its more expensive per person to send some one to the OU then it is to oxford

And they said they will be looking at ways to make it more cost effective, so they may drop some of the less popular courses etc..

SO dont wait too long to apply!

I have a Tech Bsc with the OU, they are very good, if you are having a prob you can phone/e-mail your tutor or form a study Group with students in you area, they can also supply cheap(ish) systems. go for it.

what do you mean by online courses? the stuff i did required you had the internet so you could download the current weeks study guide and do some experiments etc. they were aware some people still had dialup and included any big downloads you needed on a CDRom they sent along with the books for the course.

as for the spec of your pc it all depends on the course youre gonna be taking really

you should just go for it

one of the courses I was looking at was "design & the web" course which is considered an online course. I therefore explect a lot of the learning to be online in a secure environment but i'm a bit concerned that dial up will be shite for doing it?
I suppose I'm worrying too much about it.???

I took one of their online courses, and dial-up shouldn't be much of a problem. The lessons and discussions took place in a forum-based environment and all essays and papers that had to be downloaded and uploaded were fairly small. A lot of people taking the course were on dial-up and had no problems at all. Hope this helps and good luck with your course

    Regards,

    Nicci
