well since the US + UK ones arent actually out how are people supposed to know about any bugs that get fixed, build quality etc

Wait for the UK ones to come out if you're concerned about whichi bugs/issues have been fixed, failing that read malt's "PSP - Has yours failed" thread in this forum

at the moment I personally would buy a jap psp, cos they are proven to be reliable and good quality. The region marking for UMD movies (if you ever plan on using em) is the same as the likely UK marking (if they follow DVD markings which they have so far).

USA ones may be as good or better. They have a different screen to the originals (no one knows if better or worse yet) plus are region 1, so you would not be able to pop into a uk store and pick up a umd movie on a whim.

I'm anticipating USA stock levels to be very low or non existant for the next 2-3 months, so if you're not already on a preorder list i'd say japanese is your best bet.

sony have so far stuck to all their claims/promises and as they are aiming the psp at 'international business travellers' I wouldnt be surprised if we didnt get firmware updates to choose our home region in the future, should we want to.

    cheers,

    malty

If the rumors are to be correct, the JAP machines have a Samsung LCD which is higher quality but prone to more dead pixels (due to being higher quality). The US (and probably UK) machines have a cheaper Sharp screen which has reduced dead pixels but the picture quality isn't quite up to par with the JAP machines (colors etc)

thats backwards m8, the jap ones have a sharp screen. The others will have a "more generic screen" (maybe samsung, yet to be confirmed)

The USA / EU models (and the next batch of jap) are all made in a chinese plant too, whereas the original sony ones came out of sonys own japanese plant.

as for dead pixels, they are a way of life in TFT technology, many screens have em and its not really down to manufacturer.

you will be hard pressed getting a replacement/repair/refund out of any manufacturer for dead pixels, theyre part and parcel of the technology at the moment. Theres an eu directive and its something like 4% before they have to replace. thats alot of pixels gotta be dead

shame really, if there were loads in one area on the screen it'd really bother me. although at the moment i'd rather have 3.9% dead pixels than just be staring at the images on lik-sang.com
    I'm new to this

i read in another thread that someone took a DS back with a dead pixel,

if my unit did develop an annoying amount of dead pixels, im sure another fault would "develop" a little more drastic that would guarentee my replacement

I ordered my PSP from Videogames Plus, and the main reason for this was the no dead pixel promise.

Nintendo's policy is 100% 'fault free' where as Sony will actually allow minor faults (dead pixels) to pass through. So any Nintendo Dead Pixels will be replaced straight away. But most of the time it's just loading screens which are white are when you notice dead pixels the most. Not too bad if it's on one of the corners and there is only 1.

I started off with 3 dead pixels but over time that has reduced to just one. The others are probably still there, but I don't notice them anymore.

They aren't as annoying as you'd first expect.

Well if you are going to go for a Jap PSP lik-sang have just dropped their prices again.

Welcome to another issue of the Lik-Sang newsletter! Last time the major news was all Nintendo DS and SmartJoy FRAG, but since then a little thing called PSP launched, and one thing's for sure, every last part of it looks extremely stylish and well-designed. The whole package just feels like one of those visions when past meets future. Some US games have just started to ship out in the last couple of days and by the end of this month we'll be looking at a software library of around 56 PSP titles, not bad of a launch. The Standard Pack is just US$279.90 (about €215 / £149 / AUS$349), while the Value Pack is down to US$329.90 (about €249 / £174 / AUS$414), usually in stock and shipping within 24 hours.

Slight possibility of Duty from Lik-Sang. However my last order from them only last week got sent from Germany (Their Eupropean Store) and avoided it

I would be carefull when ordering from lik-sang. I got my ds in December & thought I had got away without paying import duty but sure enough last week I got a letter from dhl asking for £21 in Import fees

I would get one from someone in the u.k to avoid this happening. I would try bulletproof as his service is second to none but failing that expansys also get them in a lot & a few of my m8's have bought from them without any problems
