Bad News Ebay FVF to rise

Well after me singing ebays praises on customer support yesturday I find out this.

Insertion fees are cheaper than before but final value fees have been increase by 2.25% up to £30 and by 1.25% from £30 to £600.

Basically ebay are charging the public in order to get more businesses on there. They are offering up to 40% off FVF for business sellers!

    http://web.ebay.co.uk/businesshub/in...neral&ov=004FT

The charges are a joke already, this is insane!

How hard is it to get ebay to believe you are a business? And would that then leave you liable to taxes on any ebay earnings?

Edit: Just read the link it it says for high volume sellers.

At least the feedback system will finally have impacts on bad sellers, but I've been surprised at the amount of times i've bought stuff from someone called something like ukseller who says item is in uk, takes 4 weeks to arrive. By which time you notice that ukseller is actually from china and has millions of people saying product takes forever to arrive under feedback. How can they have scores like 4.5 for delivery speed ?

ebay are a bunch of theiving cunts, who are bacically running a monopoly.

Isn't there a law against this?

I know they have competitors (like amazon sellers) but they have so much of the online auction world sewn up that any competitor has no chance.

We should start a petition over at http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/

Organic growth is allowed, they just won't be able to buy out any of their competitors. However that is set by the competition commission, I am not sure if ebay would fall under those trading laws or not.

Always some good where there is bad...

Insertion Fees for Buy It Now and Auction-style formats will be reduced.
    &

Final Value Fees for Buy It Now and Auction-style formats will be increased for all categories except for Media & Technology products*, where Final Value Fees will remain unchanged.
So according to the info I just read.
It's cheaper to list your item, so if it dont sell, you lose less cash now than before. (Good Times!)

But if it sells, eBay sting you for more now. (Bad Times!)

On top of which, PayPal then gets involved as well (Ooops, another can of worms! LOL).

The way I see it, not saying I agree with eBay fee's, but where else on the internet, if I want to sell my Old Reuge Musical Toilet Paper Roll Holder or my Genuine two-headed turtle would I get a potential 50 'buyers' per day to look at it?

In my opinion it's swings and roundabouts. If the fee's are too much to sell your shit... Keep it or flog it on Gumtree (free Classifieds)

Back in the day, eBay did have a few competitors. One was QXL, which to my knowledge still operates, but has hardly any members these days as they completely lost out to eBay.

eBay now clearly own the online auction market as much as Amazon owns the online book and CD sales without any close competition from anyone!

    --EDIT--
QXL have just been bought in December 07 by an online marketing company.

You could always list everything in the Media & Technology products category.
