    Default Slow shutter speed

    Hi

I took this from a moving car using a slow shutter speed, I like the effect it caused.

    Cool picture...

Listuk - does your camera have a Shutter priority mode? you need to set the camera to open its shutter for say 1 second or 2 seconds or 4 seconds and so on. Thats how you get the blurred light effect. Good luck

The picture was taken with a canon eos 300d digital camera with a shutter speed of somewhere between half and one second but I cant remember exactly the lens was set to manual focus , and it was taken from a moving car with me as a passenger somewhere near the centre of birmingham.

I will check the info stored for that picture when I go home later, in the mean time here are two more from the same road trip.

My camera, Sony DCS P72, i don't think has a direct shutter mode. But when looking at the details of some of the pics taken, the shutter speed is different dependant on whether flash was on, the flash intensity andf some other settings.
Thing is, i've never been able to take slow shutter photos like the ones you guys have taken, no matter how much i mess around with the camera. I probably need a camera with a Shutter priority mode like you said. Thanks anyway.

Try going outside into the street at night and turn your flash off..when a car passes by take a picture....you might get some kinda half decent picture.

I just read your cameras shutter speed is done automatically, but it says "Shutter Control Automatic: 2 seconds to 2/1000 second" if it can take a shot at upto 2 seconds, you should be able to get a long exposure shot similar to these.

Go try what i said..flash off..and take a picture as a car flys past....and post your results..

Got my fingers crossed for you. Good luck!

Yeah wierd stuff indeed, but I like it and I have the first one as my desktop wallpaper at work.

The camera is a digital slr so it has all the features of a standard slr (except that you cant put film in it...lol), I dont think that you can get the same effect if you cant manually select the speed of the shutter, dont take it as gospel though as there may be a method reproducing the effect with a normal digi camera that I dont know of.

The reason I bought that particular camera is because I already had a canon eos 3000 film slr and the accessories including my telephoto lens fit the digital.

To be honest when I took those from the car I was just messing about as we were on our way to the pub for a night out and I had only got the camera the day before so I was playing.
