    Help Glow Worm Bolier

I thought it might be worth asking on here before I have to take out a second mortgage to get the bolier fixed

I've got a glow worm swift flow boiler and I reckon the fans stopped working 'coz its just not making any noise .... is it gonna cost me a fortune to get fixed? , is it in the sealed bit of the boiler or not? ... is it something I can fix myself?

So many questions! ...I just want heat , I can light the pilot but as soon as I switch the heating on or run a hot tap it goes out again.

Anyone got any brilliant ideas? :nowords:

if you can hear the fan start up (which you say it does'nt) but then the boiler shuts down, its usualy the air pressure switch. as you get no fan sound then i would change the fan. its not difficult and if you have the manufactures instructions then the part number will be in there and should be pretty easy to find a local hrpc dealer.

    not gonna be cheap..

it wont be in the sealed bit of the boiler and even then its only the heat exchanger in there. just remember to check the seals ALL the way round when you put it back together.

    Thanks for replying ,

I've not got instructions for the boiler and can't find any after a quick google mooch , sticker on inside of the door says its a 75/80.

Why do these things always happen in the week when the mortgage is due and I've paid out a fortune for bike spares as well?

i know its a bit late now. but after all this you should look at taking out the british gas cover. they are brilliant.
i know have the top package. think its about £30 a month.

i live in an old terrace and since taking out the package they have been out and repaired free of charge my freezer, my oven, my boiler, my pipes under the sink when i sprung a leak.

i keep thinking they will tell me im taking the piss and cant have any more help but they just keep coming out and repairing. well worth the money.

Boiler 'Turbo FANs' are pretty expensive as they obviously have to withstand a hefty amount of heat. Although I doubt you will be looking at more than a few hundred quid if it is indeed that what has gone.

they are good up to a certain point. however if the individual repair job comes to a few hundred quid then they may say it is beyond economical repair. then the small print (exclusions) come into force and they will not pay for a new boiler. i have seen it done, i got out to a boiler, find the problems, tell the customer "boiler is bolloxed mate" they smile and reply "i dont care mate it's insured, new boiler for me then?". a quick phone call to insurance company and they tell them a new boiler is not part of the insurance.. cuatomer goes apeshit and im left there trying to price them up a new boiler to the tune of about £1500+..

    check your smallprint and exclusions.

or it could be the PCB. check the main fuse. the pilot will still light because its on a thermo electric valve.

cannot help but if you do need a new boiler have a look at this site:

    hxxp://www.mrcentralheating.com/

The prices look good, prices for boilers start at £369 inc vat.

I'm still umming and arring over this one!

If I phone the bloke who normally services the boiler then its an automatic £60 call out + any parts he needs to fix it whether it is the fan or the pcb , so if either of those parts are £85 to £100 quid then with the call out its gonna be at least £200 alltogether.

Now I've just looked at that site that mij posted and if I can get a new boiler that cheap I don't reckon its worth throwing any more money at the current boiler
