    Default Moped/Scooter Restriction?

Hi, my 50CC bike is restricted to 30MPH, on the end of the exhaust, there is a small "Plug" that makes the hole smaller! Is this a de-restriction method and if i removed it, would i gain a "Small" power gain?

i know there is more to de-restricting a bike than that, but my bike is under warranty and my dealer is going to be de-resticting it in a few months for me!

But if i do remove the small plug on the exhaust, would i see any difference? Or should i just wait to get it de-restricted?

    Thanks!

wait till you get a full licence then you can ride a faster bike without breaking dozens of laws.

Is there a line between a 'mod' and an 'illegal upgrade' when it comes to the actual law on what's allowed? maybe it's as simple as, 'you can do nothing' but I'd have thought that isn't the case...??
    I'm new to this

your not allowed to make any modification that can increase the performance or power output.

even puting a different exhaust on the bike (that is road legal and doesnt change the bikes power output) will invalidate your insurance if you dont tell the insurance company

dude who cares, just fully derezz it, no one cares, 50mph is safer than 30mph.

do the exhaust and remove the washer on the variator, get a sports exhaust and upjet.

I suspect that the old bill will be more than happy to get a 16 year old in to court for driving without a license and no insurance if they catch them on a motorcycle (which is exactly what a moped is classified as when you derestrict it).

    50mph is safer than 30mph.
On the right road, and for someone who has at least a years riding experience under their belt, I have no doubt that 50mph is safe.
For the gobby little chav who has just left school, or indeed the spotty pizza delivery boy, even 30mph is too fast.

Im 19 years old and have been driving a car for the past 3 years (With a qualified ADI or a person who has had at least 3 years driving experiance) and will be taking my full driving test in a month or so...

At 19, is it legal to have a derestricted bike with only a provisional licence?

The first thing you need to have is motorcycle entitlement on your provisional license (it isn't there by default).
The second thing you need to do is pass a CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) test.

Once you have the above, you may ride a motorcycle up to 125cc providing it does not develop more than 11kW (14.6BHP).
If you choose to ride a derestricted moped, then make sure that DVLA are aware it is derestricted and that it has now been reclassified as a motorcycle.

If you derestrict a 125 to produce more horsepower, then once again you will be breaking the law if you are not a full motorcycle license holder.

It is perfectly legal (and always has been) to derestrict a moped.

It only becomes an issue if the rider is aged 16, and/or DVLA have not been notified of the modification in order that it may be reclassified as a motorcycle.
Note that you will also have to inform your insurance company that the vehicle has been modified as well.
