    Info Average MPG

    Hi all,

Dont know if many people will be intersted in this thread, but I am interested in knowing how many mile per gallon people are getting?

I have an 04 Renault Megane 1.5dci (Diesel), I bought it new (although it had 3000 miles on the clock as the garage used it as a courtesy car) in December.

I bought a diesel as I do a 130 mile round trip from London to Milton Keynes everyday.
It costs around £45 to fill the tank which is about 11-12 gallons.

Prior to the last month I was doing around 40-50 on the back roads and 80-90 on the motorways. From this I was getting on average 57mpg. I was filling the car up once a week(after 5 journeys).
However the last few weeks I have been driving 'sensible'. I have been doing pretty much the speed limiton roads, mainly because I am very knackered from all of the god damn driving lol (in excess of around 30,000 a year for a 9-5 office based job!!). I have found that the last few weeks I have been hitting an average of 67mpg! this is 10 miles more than when I drive that extra 20mph over the speed limit! This adds upto me getting 120miles extra out of the tank! When I used to fill up out of 5 journey's it is now 6 which makes a massive difference!

I am not going to preach to people to drive to the speed limits etc... but it makes financial sense! Anyhow here is my record mpg so far, this was taken just before I had to fill up this morning!

2.7 V6 Rover Coupe, and I get about 26-28 MPG, keep the foot to the floor everywhere and that changes to around 20MPG.

However mine has an idle driving mode than means if your not pressing the fast/slow pedal, and the engine is running at more than 1100 revs then it switches to an idle fuel mode. This saves fuel to the tune of about 2MPG for the average journey. Might not sound much but its quite easy to make this work without driving like a grandad. Running up to lights/heavy traffic you simply leave the car to slow itself down, rather than waiting and then hitting the brakes. Takes a while to teach yourself to remember this but its worth it in the long run.

To improve MPG I have a LPG kit to install this summer (if it ever arrives). That should see some drastic fuel cost reductions

I also have a Rover 825 Trubo Diesel, but still only get 45MPG when I take it easy.

Yes I agree with the taking the foot of the accelarator rather then breaking at the last point.

When the average mpg goes down by, 0.01 I take the foot off and watch it go back up again until I find the right amount of pressure

The only bad thing about this however is that I now venture into the slow lane at times!!! Weeks ago I was never out of the fast lane! No I'm pretty much a middle lane hogger lol.

I have noticed though that even though I drive 10-20mph less when on the straight, I am getting to work about the same time and less stressed!

Depends on if you mean the 320 diesel BMW or the 5.7 Litre Lambo, one does between 36-42 mpg if I nurse it, and one is less than 12 mpg regardless if I drive slow/fast, ticking over or motorway, you do the Math LOL :-)

Iam getting around 24mpg in a Celica GT 2.0i, but when boy racers line up in their shitty novas and astras at the lights, you've just gotta blow em away.
