    Default Car Amp Over heating?

ive had this sony amp for a while..the bass kicks in for a good 20-30 min max and it will cut out ..i recently bought a power cap thinking that this would solve the issue :nowords: . To a certain extent it did. Now insted of cutting off, then pulling the face of the head unit and waiting a few min,to listen to the bass like i had to before this purchase, it will cut and play again in seconds or if i put the volume a bit down it will carry on for a extra 10-15 min then it will cut off permently (even after removing face). The protecter light turns red so i am guessing it is overheating,

Now ive asked a few people and ive heard a popular way to cool a amp down is to use a standard pc fan.. :nowords: i know its a 12v connection (thanks urbs) but how does this connect to a amp? and most importantly how do i make it "stick" to the amp..thanks

have you ever considered that maybe the people on the other side of town dont actualy want to listen to what you call "music", maybe turning it down a bit is the answer, after all its supposed to be a car not a frigging motorised ghetto blaster.

personaly i'm all for the removal and crushing of any car whos stereo you can hear outside, that way the cunts could make their ears bleed without annoying everyone else, apart from which its dangerous to drive like that as you couldnt possibly hear warning noises from outside.

:thumbs just brightened up my nite, on a serious note i make quite few lengthy journeys a week, and its not nice when your listening to a tune and the bass disappers

edit also its trictly loud outside of residents areas.. ive seen what happens when your blasting at 3am outside your house :coffee:

If your amp is cutting out in the fashion you describe, then you obviously need a bigger amp as you are driving the current one way too hard.

Another popular cause of tripping amps is that numpties don't understand that they can only present a given load, and if this load is too low (eg, a 2ohm load on an amp that expects to see 4ohms), then this will also cause the output stage to overheat.

you should swap the bell wire you are using for power for some decent gauge stuff too.

As i told u yesterday on irc ure running ur amp @ 4ohms when the impedance of urs subs is 2ohms.
Analogy: Its like a inserting a giant penis in a tiny tight vagina, u get my drift!!!!.
Best solution is to unbridge it or get an amp that will support birdging @ 2ohms.

As mentiond before you may be running to much curret through the amp, also check the earth to the amp.

If you did want a run PC fans on it, Use the REM+ connection for the live and Neg- for the neutral, as that way they are only on when your amp is on.

If you need more help let me know mate

'D' class amplification circuits throughout, using switching techniques instead of the linear methods used in Class 'A' or 'B' type amplifiers. Class 'D' is a significantly more efficient than Class 'A' or 'B',
