    its only usb though if you're gonna get a big external harddrive you want to have either firewire 400 or 800 to get fast transfers

    I got one of those 250Gb ones from Aldi,,, but as I said elsewhere I may get another drive to take me over 1,000Gb,,, lol.

    It's USB2, which is actually faster than Firewire 400.

    It's all a moot point anyway, because there is no way on this earth you will ever get a sustained transfer rate of 60MB/sec out of an IDE drive with a pissy ATA100 interface, let alone 100MB/sec which is the theoretical maximum of Firewire 800.

    you won't notice it on small transfers but on bigger transfers you will see that firewire is damn lot quicker than usb

    Firewire is better than USB as it use's far less clock cycles to get the job done. However this is reflected in the price. This post is pretty good price :thumbs

    Got one of these and happy with it. Very good for transfering large volumes of non-networked data. Took about 26 mins to transfer 20 gig of stuff, so not too slow.

    Please note... whilst the advert says 300GB, the drive only has 279GB of usuable storage space (I'm using Win XP SP2).
