    Default Check your ADSL Exchange..

Sorry if already posted, but with the current line upgrades it might be worth checking to see if your line can handle 8mb.

if you go here http://www.bt.com/btbroadband/ns_availability_check.jsp and enter your telephone number or postcode, don't worry you dont have to be on BT Broadband it simply checks your telephone number, you will then be given the details of the Exchange you are on and current line speeds.

don't rely on this though as I'm currently on 8mb reaching fullspeeds but BT think I can only get 2mb and when I tried to signup to Zen, BT thought I couldnt even reach 2MB ;X

That made me a bit worried now.....I ordered Pipex 1mb yesterday, then i went in here and checked that link to see my exchange - and it said, i should be able to get 512k with engineer assistance!!! I ordered a goddam 1mb already, so I am a little scared now.....we do have *** around my way, but cable to my house is damaged and they wont repair it unfortunately so i have to opt for ADSL....

I live in a flipping town, and the exchange isnt that far away from my house, so i dont know what the problem is - hopefully that site is just a little negative with results or I am stuffed!

i wouldnt worry... seems to be a lot of shite.
For Telephone Number 01XXXXXXXXX on Exchange REMOVED

Our initial test on your line indicates that you may be able to get Broadband from BT with speeds up to 1Mb, which is up to 20 times faster than dial-up. At the moment, your telephone line is unable to support our 2Mb speed broadband package. Also, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required to set up your broadband service.
    im on pipex solo 2000.

Right first off I am sorry about the confusion about the speeds. From what people saying this is not true which si fair enough. However Marcode, look at my Screen Print, clearly states what Exchange I am on. This comes in handy when looking for 'Upgraded Exchanges' just like in the F2S FAQ I posted yesterday in a different thread.

lol sorry mate. If you tell me your Exchange Name i'll give you more info.

It's a big box full of wires with a BT van parked outside that has an Engineer asleep in the back!

Apologies to any BT engineers but you are lazy gits lmfao! I paid £75 to have a BT line installed in my new flat (Standard charge for a new property), the guy was going to charge £30 per socket that was not connected properly! Stupid git!! Had him sussed, made him a cuppa and he done it for free! Then was parked outside asleep for the next hour I', guessing on his 7th tea break of the day!! £75!!

Look at which provider you want then call them with your exchange name. They should then be able to tell you.

If you want more exchange info try Samknows, it'll even give you your approximate straight line distance.

I was informed by BT in February that my broadband was going to be upgraded from 1mb to 2mb for free. Then they told me the line was able to support this.

I get this when I do a search:

Our initial test on your line indicates that you may be able to have Broadband from BT with speeds up to 512Kb, which is up to 10 times faster than dial-up. At the moment, your telephone line is unable to support our 2Mb speed broadband package. Also, due to the length of your line, an engineer visit may be required to set up your broadband service.

So how do I have 1mb if the line will only support up to 512kb? :nowords:
