    Default Virtual Memory Problem

    Hi Guyz

Got a strange problem for ya. I have just got a new pc, and have been using it for about 4 days now and today when i logged on i got an error message

"your system has no paging file or the paging file is too small"

Ok i have seen this message before so i go into the virtual memory settings and see the amount allocated is 20mb which is far to low considering i have 1gig of memory. So i change the ammounts to what they should be. Anyway it asks me for a restart so i do it then it boots back up i log back on and i get the same message "your system has no paging....." i check the settings again and it has still allocated 20mb to virtual memory. I can change it but every time i change it it seems to have no effect i still get the same message its like the change is not sticking somehow.

I have tried the following - changing it in safe mode, repairing Windows 2000 installation, deleting pagefile.sys, upgrading the bios., nothing seems to make a diffrence, i still get the message when i log on.

If anyone can help with a solution for this message it would be appreciated as it is driving me mad as i cannot install programs or hardly run any applications.

    Cheers

The spec of the pc is

    P4 3.2ghz
    1 gig ram
    160gig sata hard drive

That usually happens when the page-file is corrupt in some way. Try setting it to 0/0 (or no page-file), reboot, let it create a new pagefile then increase it to whatever. That used to work for me.

Yes I think you're right. In that case, as I said above, simply set it to 0/0 (does the same thing effectively).

Also, if the above doesn't work, try having a look at this.
