    uk launch = play any genuine umd (game) from shops, usa/jap or uk

    shopping for a 1.5 version, either usa, or jap = all the above, but able to play homebrew from mem card (emulators/home made games/applications) and some retail ISO games from memory card.

    uk version is gonna have firmware 2.0. Very bad. Get one now while you can and make sure its a 1.5 not 1.51 or 1.52. you will not regret it =)

    Couple of points to think about. As the guys have mentioned , there is a current hack still very much in development that allows you to play homebrew software from your memory stick. There's several 'Loaders' available that will run SOME games , however as mentioned this is only possible on a psp with firmware version 1.50

    If you buy online , there's no way you can know what the firmware is unless you ask the retailer before you buy it . Even then they may not comit to what version it is, as they have no way of knowing themselves unless they open the sealed packaging.

    Next, personally I think the value pack is a waste of time, ear phones are poor quality, memory stick is tiny, and there are much better cases. All of the items in the value pack are better bought afterwards because you can choose better quality equivelants.

    The only other thing to bare in mind is, do you intend to ever buy UMD movies for it ? If so, then you need to know that USA psp's are region 1 and will not play UK sourced UMD movies. However JAP psp's are region 2, same as UK. Games however are not region coded, any psp will play any game.

    Hope this helps.

    is there a crucial difference between a 1.5 firmware and later ones? is it just being able to play games from the memory card?

    cheers

    to cut it short

    1.5 = play emulators and 'hax0r3d' games

    other firmwares = just original games

    2.0 = just orignals and gay web browser

    pretty much it m8

    @ andy, let me know when you get your PSP, where it was sent from. Reason I'm asking is that I ordered the E3 DVD and a few PSP bits and bobs such as USB/charger cables and desktop chargers from Lik-Sang about 2 weeks ago. They arrived today complete with a customs bill of about £10 as they stated the full value of my order on the customs slip. What was even more weird was they were sent from DVDBOXOFFICE in Canada and not Lik-Sang ?!
