Question Best hardware to get for a HP2210

I've got an IPaq 2210 and want to install tt on it but want to know a little bit more on hardware before I take the plunge

Firstly, is the TT cradle for 2210 any beter than the ones you can pick up cheaper? I want to install it into the dashboard and bot have it on suction cups on the windscreen etc.

Secondly, what GPS unit would you recommend? I heard that with teh bluetooth ones, they are fiddly to get it started with TT. Would you recommend a wired GPS unit?

Also, on the TT radle, I was looking for a wired GPS that fits into the serial connection of the TT Cradle. Does the official TT GPS the only thing that would fit into there?

    Many thanks for your comments,

I wouldnt bother with the TT cradle or receiver.
You can pick up a wired GPS receiver on Ebay for around the £40 mark.
Cheap cradles can be picked up for a few pounds but can only mount either on the windscreen or air vents.I would have thought the windscreen mount was ideal,as mounting on the dash doesnt give a very good viewing angle.

cheers for the comments... But could you clarify some of your suggestions? what type of wired GPS receiver would you recommend (do you have one?)? How does it connect to the pda? Does it allow to charge the pda and receiver at the same time? As for the cradle, I really don't want a tacky one where you "push" in to hold.. picky I know!

    For instance;
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Top-Quality-GP...QQcmdZViewItem

This charges both Ipaq & GPS receiver, works fine and ive had 4 or 5 of them.

Fussy or not, there is no way I'd pay £40 for a cradle when you can pick them up for about £5

if you can get a TT 2210 cradle then go for it, its a nice snug fit and only needs a single power cable. they are hard to get now cos TT have stopped making since the 2210 went EOL.
cheaper ones will do the job but you might go through a few of them since they can break easy.

on the receiver side, if you get a TT car kit then get a TT cabled receiver unless you're going to use GPS outside the car....then you should get a Bluetooth one. again, cheap receivers are fine but you may go through a few if they fail. spend the extra and buy a good one such as the TT MKII BT receiver.

they are good, the SIRFIII chipset sure makes a difference over SIRFII, so are the new SIRFIII emtac and holux models as well but i'm not sure of their prices.

Right guys and gals, just wanted to update you on my progress on this... Been searching high and low for a decent GPS system which is friendly to my pocket and has no fuss over wires.

What I found is a little gem called the Holux CR-100. Great little piece of kit which consists of a charging cradle, intergrated GPS receiver (SIRFIIe) and 2 integrated speakers! Not bad as you can get it for £85 incl VAT and delivery from www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk or have a go on ebay. (picked mine up for £72.50 incl delivery (uk supplier)!

    Links:

Will provide more updates when I get it installed and working!
