Default Best Sub £4000 nearly new car?

Can anyone point me in the right direction of what decent nearly new cars I can get for < £4000 and whcih will be cheap to run/maintain. Ideally I would like something reasonably small and not too girly.

Sorry I know it is a fairly open question but I really don't have any idea what I want to buy (as long as it isn't another Volvo T5 damn their running costs!)

    All matchbox cars are girly.

I have a V reg 2 litre Zetec Mondeo that you can have right now though.
Fully loaded (Leccy Seats, Mirrors, Windows, Central Locking, PAS, ABS, Twin SRS, Traction Control, Air-Con, Kenwood MASK head unit, 2x Kenwood Amps, etc).

£400 just spent on a service, you can have it for £2,200 cash (dealer retail is £3200).

It needed to be under £4000 and not too girly?.......disqualified on both counts surely!!!

Cheers for the responses. Taylor, it's funny you have said that, a women I know is going to sell her Golf GTI (which she has owned from new).
