    Help Access Denied...

    Hello to all

A friend of mine has given me his pc to fix, isn'the nice.. Anyways the PC went tits up basically and he fixed it by putting the XP disk back in to replace the missing files..

So all was good, but he had to re create his account which he did, but he named it the same as his old one.

So though his old username is on the pc, it does not show up to login but his documents are their but when you try and access them though documents and settings it gives access denied.

He needs to get to his business files and so far I have not found a way to get round the problem.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks :thumbs

log in as Administrator (Ctrl, Alt and Del at login screen and type Administrator) then you should have full access to all the local user accounts files. Their folder will be Documents and Settings\<name>.windowsXP or something, just check all the folder in there his work should be safely inside it.

Then sort out the accounts so the other user is an admin too or just move the files to where u want them, i.e. the main user's my docs folder...

that shoudl work anyway, unless i'm being slow today :\
    I'm new to this

The account I was using to try and gain access is an Admin as that was the first thing I checked.

Right click on the drive, select Properties, click the Security tab, click Advanced, click Owner, highlight your name, and then take ownership.
