    Cars Importing

I've been thinking about importing my next car from the states, has anyone done this?

Quotes for shipping vary a lot but then so does the service offered (some do all the paper work and everything)

Does anyone know what the best way to get the thing sent over is?

From experiance, You can find local importers in your area via yellow pages etc.

If they offer same price to import as doing it directly, you might a well pay the import fee.

What car is it your importing mate,

Importing is the easy bit, the more complicated matter is getting it registered as you will need to have your headlamps changed to uk european spec

I'd like to own an AMC pacer (like the car in wayne's world, bit of an aquired taste I know!) I know of a couple of others in the country, missed out on buying the one used on the Rolf harris bohmenien rhapsody video about 10 years back, was going for about £1500 if i remember right and it was in London. Unfortunately AMC parts are hard enough to get in the states.

If I see the right car at the right price i'll go for it.

Thanks for the help everyone k+

If you're importing anything newer than 1997 it's not worth it..

You will need to put it thru an ESVA test which can be a couple of grand minimum as you will need a model report made.

You can hire model reports but unless it's something like a subaru or other jap cars there's probably not a model report available..

If you need a more detailed response lemme know.

Do a google search for SVA & ESVA and check the .gov guidelines

You'd be a brave man to import an American gus guzzler in the current climate (or a rich one!)
