A clean install is always adviseable after such a major change of hardware.
If you are really insistent on just throwing it all together and hoping for the best, then it is possible to avoid a re-install providing you uninstall your chipset drivers & remove the disk controller from device manager before you make the changeover..
absolutely.A clean install is always adviseable after such a major change of hardware.
you don't want that question clouding the issue over any problem trouble-shooting you may need to do in the near future. As the chances are reasonably high that you will run into some problem, and so need to reinstall anyway, just treat it as part of the job and start with a clean slate.
ok, so thats what i thought, now how about if i buy a new hdd and keep the one i have at the moment set as a slave drive....its just that i want to keep all my mp3's and films ect....i was also reading up on norton ghost just to copy the music files and then tossing everything else i dont need.
P.S thanks for the good advice.
P.S.S oh and karma to you both...this has been bugging me for a few weeks now

i recommend doing a clean install if your going to do so much changing of hardware like you are
I have stolen money from a DF member and a member of Disqworld. All my personal details including families details are on file and will be made public to everyone if I do not refund the money I stole or send the goods I promised. My name will be ravaged across the net and the consequences will be severe if I do not sort this fucking mess out.
If you go with the plan of purchasing a new HDD and slaving the old one, you won't need Ghost just to copy over your personal data, you can do that through Explorer once the new OS is on.
ok thanks guys. that has helped me loads.
