    Default Routers

    Hello,

My dads new office needs a router which can support the large files he will be transporting across the network.

Is their a router that supports gigabit speeds using cat6 cables. If so can anyone point me in the right direction.

He will also be using the internet though the router which is why I suggested a router, but if a switch is the only option

Never seen Gigabit routers myself, not saying they don't exist though.

An alternative you could go for is modem -> router -> switch.

If you want to future proof yourself you can now buy the 10GBps routers (big bucks at the moment though) from www.foundrynet.com/sie - If I had the money I would purely cos its a new gadget!

There are various 1GB routers around, try and research them before you buy though as expensive ones not mean the best!!

They don’t do gigabit modem routers yet so your best off buying

    4 port ADSL modem router

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=48449

    8port gigabit network switch:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=54225

you would also need gigabit network cards because your systems will have built in 100mbps cards
Dlink pci gigabit network adapter’s £8.16 carnt get better than that for a top brand anyway:

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=83820

Link for your cat6 network cables you will need these to transfer your data at 1gigabit per second as your standard cables won’t work at 1gigabit

    http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=UFNTaG93UmVzdWx0cw%3D%3D

This will enable you to share your connection via your modem router to your 5 port gigabit switch and also allow you to share your files at 1024mbps (1gig)

you can have all this off E-buyer for £100 depending on how many computers you got then there’s your cat6 cables on top ill include link for them as well

then of course you carnt use your standard network cables unless you wanted to transfer files at 100mbps so you would need a cat6 network cable to transfer your files at 1gigabit per second and these cables arnt cheap at £25 per 15m And if you’re going with a gigabit network I would recommend going with 2mbps ADSL

I have stolen money from a DF member and a member of Disqworld. All my personal details including families details are on file and will be made public to everyone if I do not refund the money I stole or send the goods I promised. My name will be ravaged across the net and the consequences will be severe if I do not sort this fucking mess out.
