I know exactly what you mean, the attitude of some of them is appaling, they aren't supposed to ask you.

The other month there were some collecting for a local hospitals cancer research department, one of the main charities my family donates to and has done for a long time. The very hospital in which my grandma died from lung cancer. Anyway we were approached by 3 women, all with buckets dressed in loads of promotional material who proceeded to thrust buckets into our faces and ask if we would like to donate. I said (truthfully) "i'm afraid I havent got any change" at which stage they stomped off only for me to hear a sarcastic "yeah, I bet he hasn't!"

I work in a school in which the majority of pupils are from other countries and who's first language isn't english. A fair amount of students live and were born here, but a large percentage were not.

After the London bombings there was a distinct lack of reaction/show of support for the victims/families or anything like that.

Today i've noticed theres hardly a window/wall without multiple posters urging people to donate towards the earthquake appeal.

Now I have no problem with this in the slightest and also do not see the nationality of the majority of our pupils as a contributing fact in the slightest, but why such a difference in the two events/reaction?

Surely as a school we should have appeals for all events of this nature?

I've personally donated towards both, but chosen to completely ignore anyone badgering me to donate.

I'm pretty sure your right and it is illegal to do that.

I sometimes wonder what percentage of people collecting money like this pockets some of it on the sly. I used to occasionaly give a few quid to charity now and again, till this guy I know told me he was on £30k a year working for one, can't remember which one but felt that when I give to 'charity', it's his bloody wages in effect.

Thats exactly what makes me think twice before giving charities to many organisations. They have staff with company cars and a huge salaries. My money is for victims not for these people.

It is a sad fact that charity business's are set up soley for the purpose of making money themselves.

They set up the company appoint the Directors, secretary, treasurer etc.
all the costs of setting up the company, the premises, the company cars, the cost to employ all the people required, and their big fat profits that they take are all taken off the money thats donated.
Perhaps only a few pence out of each pound dontated goes to the actual charity that you thought it was going to.

I used to think the people were real martyrs, stood there on street corners collecting for charity, are they fuck, its their job.

Mind you I think its got worse recently and perhaps years ago there were more genuine charity collectors collecting part time for free.

Just typing this has got me really angry about it, these people are fucking parasites, real scum bastards that are using other peoples misfortunes to gain for themselves.
I think these peoples identities should be exposed, then we can track them down and set them on fire, only to extinguish the flames by beating them with cricket bats, leaving them as facially disfigured as Dean Gaffney.
Then and only then will they realise the error of the ways.

is it me, or are there more charities than anything else these days.

Don't get me wrong, I do give cash to charity, but there just seem to be so many of them. What's really annoying is when you those guys on the street try to make you feel guilty that you don't give to their charity.

Some guy actually told me that "you might as well, it's only a fiver a month" I explained that I did not want to give more than I already do per month, he responded with "It's only another fiver"

The government sends aid to those countries in need....I see no reason to give more.

    Same here,

I pretty much refuse to give money to "people oriented" charities
