A zoo boss spoke of his disgust today after yobs threw a live rabbit to the alligators.

Three youths at the Welsh Mountain Zoo, in Colwyn Bay, took the white rabbit from the Children’s Farm area and threw it into the alligator pool.

The terrified creature was immediately eaten by Albert, a four-metre long Mississippi Alligator who has been at the zoo for more than 20 years.

Zoo visitors reported the yobs to staff, who detained one of them. The other two fled.

Zoo director Chris Jackson described the incident as “brutal and callous”, and said security measures would be reviewed to prevent it happening again.

He said “During the 43 years that the zoo has been open we have never before been subject to an incident of this nature.

“We are disturbed, distressed and shocked that any individual could behave in so brutal and callous a manner.

“Whilst this is an unprecedented incident, we are currently reviewing security procedures to ensure that there is no recurrence.”

North Wales Police is investigating the incident, which took place on Sunday afternoon.

Mr Jackson added: “We fully support the police in taking any action necessary to bring the offender to justice.”

Albert is thought to be the largest alligator in the UK. He and his mate Nancy are said to be the only breeding pair of Mississippi alligators in Europe.

The animals’ usual diet is herring and beef.

Thats a hell of sterotype!! It aint like every 13-17 year old is out there mugging grannies and chucking rabbits to their death is it. Yes there are a minority of chav bastards making left hell fr the elderly and trashing the streets etc.. and they should all be rounded up and gassed, but I find a majrity of the the youth are still helpful polite individuals.

My point still stands though, you do get some cunts filling the streets, but there are plenty of good uns' out there too. (I'm thinking of people my sister knows mainly as shes about that age)

99% of the little shits that cause grief are ok when they are on their own or with just one mate. The majority of young 'uns are, in my experience anyway, actually well behaved.. but seems to me some start acting the twat when they get that 'pack mentality' just because they are in a group. I always let my kids know that they have their own mind and know right from wrong themselves, not what some other kid tells them, and god help them if they bring grief to my door because of something they were involved with.

A Rabbit is vermin 1000s of Rabbits are shot so Crops are protected for Vegtable eaters.The Zoo will replace the fluffy white rabbit This is not Walt Fucking Disney or Watershipdown down .Just because something is fluffy it doesnt exclude it from the food chain.Well done to the kids that sounded like fun they are in touch with nature

End of the day the rabbit was there as an exhibit. It was disrespectful to the zoo to throw the thing in with the gator. More and more kids have a lack of respect these days. BRING BACK THE CANE!!!
