Default Internet child porn block calls

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><!-- E IIMA --><!-- S SF -->Internet service providers have been urged to publicly declare whether they block the use of websites containing child pornography.

Labour MP Margaret Moran says she has support from MPs of all parties for a law compelling such companies to publish their policies.

But the Home Office has said it would prefer the industry to regulate itself.

Around one in five internet service providers have not declared whether they block child pornography sites. <!-- E SF -->

The Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA), which has around 130 members, has said that the major companies already prevent access to such websites.

    Compulsion

And some companies are thought to not publicise the practice to make it harder for paedophi1es to bypass filter systems.

Ms Moran, the Labour MP for Luton South, is expected to introduce the Control of Internet Access (Child Pornography) Bill later in a bid to compel these companies to alter their approach.

Her bill has been put forward under the ten-minute rule, which means it will be the subject of a brief debate on the floor of the Commons, but has no prospect of becoming law.

Under her proposals, companies providing internet access would be required to state, either on their websites or in their annual accounts, whether or not they allow access to child porn by users of their services.

    'Name and shame'

She said: "We know that there are many internet service providers that are doing a very good job in trying to prevent internet child pornography.

"My bill is really to ensure that we take the swiftest possible action to encourage internet service providers to use the existing technology to stop these images being relayed to those people who wish to see them, and are contributing to the child pornography trade.

"For every day and every week that we delay making sure that these images are not relayed, there are more children being abused." BBC Crime Correspondent Neil Bennett said the MP has threatened to "name and shame" companies who fail to disclose their practices. Most illegal child porn sites, he said, are monitored by police and are thought to be run from the US and Eastern Europe.<!-- E BO -->

isn't it just a complete no brainer to block all these sites from every ISP in the world?

what the hell are the worlds govt's doing?

if they know where they are they can put them out of business.

i think it was earlier on this year or the end of last that bt announced that they already do this, they were blocking 10`s of thousands attempts every week, to log on to child porn sites, no doubt they could easily report the people trying to access it, but its easier to block it and keep there subscribing pervs paying for a net service

I persoanlly think the law should compel ISPs to log & report those that log onto these sites.

At least we might see the kiddie fiddlers taken to court and hopefully get what they deserve.

Blocking the sites will only encourage other means. IMO.

i think maybe a deathsentence for logging into a site is a little harsh......

didnt some beegee or some other crap-rock star get arrested for logging into one a few years ago, for research he claimed. if they can catch him, why not everyone else?

It was Pete Townsend from The Who.

I'm going to play devil's advocate, as I often do. There is a school of thought that says that as long as paedophi1es are looking at child porn they aren't actually out there committing crimes against kids. Obviously the people who create this filth should be hunted down but while it exists maybe it is keeping some paedo's urges to snatch kids and have their evil way with them at bay.

The whole notion that child porn on the internet creates paedophi1es is a total smoke screen for censorship as far as I'm concerned. You come to the internet already a paedophile if you are one, looking at a few pictures or videos wouldn't make someone a paedophile anymore than a straight man watching gay porn would make him gay.

The rise in child porn convictions is as a result of the internet, if anything the internet has helped to bring the subject from out of the shadows so people can discus the problem and actually take measures to protect children. But I don't think paedophilia is on the increase, simply society is realising it is ok to report these crimes to the authorities and that you will get support if you have been abused.

Censorship is a rocky road, no matter how good our intentions.

I have never looked at it like that tbh m8, I have a few porn films but as you rightly say it doesn't turn me into a rapist etc.

I hate ped0's with a massive passion and will gladly do life and laugh at the judge should I find anyone doing it, if anyone touched my daughter then no one would ever see the bloke again without question.

Your post although a bit controversial does raise some very good and valid points m8
