Default Cheap speed camera detector or GPS on mobile?

Need some advice for someone who's interested in getting one of them speed camera detectors but he doesn't want to spend mroe than £70-80 on it, I've seen one in Argos for £70 and there's loads on Ebay in the £40-80 price range.

My question is, would it better to get one of these cheapo speed camera detectors or should I get him a bluetooth GPS device for his Nokia 6630 and then load TomTom and the speed camera database onto it?

I'd go with Tomtom. Speed camera detectors will only do that, Tomtom Mobile will do more for about the same price.

The toad ones use gps & a database of the camera locations. I would have thought they worked well if the data was up to date. They need a subscription after the 1st included year. I think they would be ok on a motorbike too.
No sympathy for the devil; keep that in mind. Buy the ticket, take the ride...

He's looking at getting either of these:

What do you reckon? Still go with TomTom?

Both the Inforad and Tomtom rely on a database. If you've got Tomtom already then I'd go with that personally.
Don't know how much the Inforad update fee is after the first year but the unofficial Tomtom updates are free via http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/uksafetycameras.php so again Tomtom wins IMO. Tomtom charge 70euro a year BTW.

The snooper is a laser detector which I believe are in the process of being outlawed and £80 isn't bad but future risks of fines (however remote) must be considered. The S1 is quite old and has been replaced and bettered by a number of units.

Take a look at http://www.radar-detectors.co.uk/ for reviews and advice.

BTW Google produced these results http://www.google.co.uk/search?sourc...oper+s1+review

Your money, your decision in the end...

    Thanks for the info guys.

He wants to go with Tomtom on his mobile so now I need to sort out a decent GPS reciever for him. I've had a quick look on Ebay and found these which were in his price range:

    1
    2
    3
    4

What should I be looking for?

Is there anything between the ones above? Any that stand out or any models to avoid?

they all look like rebranded globalsat models to me and will all do pretty much the same job. they all have 16 channels so should all give simililar accuracy.

for my money though id spend a bit more on either a tomtom model or a holux model but thats just my opinion.
