    Default DF Book club...

    Hi all,

Just gone through a couple of books recently as I now take the tube to wok everyday it gives me something to do for the journeys.

What about a mini forum for discussing/exchanging books between members?

I know most of us are geeks and reading books doesnt make you money on the side lol, but I think some of us would find it useful.

That would be nice, I love reading. I usually have a book bymy bed, another in the bahroom, one in the car and one in the lounge. I had to leave my last library because I'd read all the books, I'm working my way through these here, then it's back to Bolton Main Library.
Me and my fella spit our dummies out so we won't be coming back. ever. boo hoo.

This is a techy / hackers forum not a fu**ing mothers meeting so - peace out.

I have downloaded over 400 audiobooks (still looking for Gone With the Wind though), I don't know if people would have the same interests as me but I'm quite happy to share any and all.

Hopefully I will find a download of GWTW one day

i read midnight express recently whivh I thought was pretty good and then watched the film and was very dissapointed (more so than normal).

Also read Killing Pablo within the last year, that book was brilliant, all about pablo escobar and his life...he was a mental bastard!

I like the ones where you can relate to the characters (Like Jack Torrence in the Shining).

The book was excellent, the ending a bit 'happy ever after' but totally different to the movie.

    Good idea Goldberg

I`ve never really tried audio books, only real books.

I`m into Sci-fi mainly, but read almost anything...Draw the line at Mills & Boon though

It`d be nice too see a trial run, if only to see if members make use of it!

i'm sure if they had pictures in them he wouldn't mind

I am sorta surprised there isn't one. I know if you had a good book or ebook which was either 'story' or technical it'd probably be recieved in the right section, for example if you uploaded a ebay powersellers wholesale ebook' for example it'd go down a treat in the ebay section just as much as if a new happy potter pdf got uploaded mysteriously or simular.

Perhaps a book section in itself might just not get used much but if it was diverse enough and people were up for uploading what they had (it's not like it takes long to upload most books) then it could possibly do pretty well.

the section could also cater for 'book club' style threads as well, means you dont have to totally rely on amazon recommendations to get your next book.

that's my thoughts on it anyway.

Wouldn't certain ebooks breach some copyright or something? and possibly put the forum at risk for encouraging trading them?

Anyways, seems like an ok idea, never been much of a reader myself but the girlfriend made me read a few Stephen Kings books lately and i quite enjoyed them. Then i ended up reading all the Harry Potter books lol used to tell her "fuck off! its for fucking kids, im not reading that shite" so she made me read a chapter, and i ended up getting hooked lol

Seems that we have a bit of support for it then, maybe it could be a sub forum in the dog and duck to start with?

@goldberg I think there are 29 or 30 Diskworld books so youve got a long way to go. lol
It does seem a good idea.

Theres also some very good newsgroups that deal with audiobooks.
'Sausages! Hot sausages! Inna bun! Meat pies! Get them while they're hot!'
... Hole food! Hole food! Rat! Rat! Rat-onna-stick! Rat-in-a-bun! Get them while they're dead!'

You can't beat reading, how do you think I became so articulate and erudite?

I am happy to send on books that I have read to anyone that wants them. I buy most of the books I read second hand from Amazon, all you really pay is a nominal fee for the book and a bit of postage.

If the section gets set up , a library or listing of who's has what would be good. Then the swapping could commence.

EDIT: I don't think I made it clear that I don't mind paying the postage for any books I forward.

    Nice call.

A book forum would be excellent.
