    Question The old Master System

Does any one remember the old master system? How cool was that, and why don't they have built in games any more?:nowords:

Alex Kidd was a pretty decent game and the master system version of Sonic held it's own. I don't remember anything else decent for it? Was it not like a poor mans megadrive - like half the price?

it was out way before the megadrive, which explains why it was a poor mans megadrive.

I remember getting a master system for my birthday nearly 17 years ago!
thought it was the dogs bollocks.

used to love Choplifter, Alex Kidd, Outrun, Hang on.
still play master system games on my GP32

the ms was my first "next gen" console (after the 2600/intellivision and coleco) had a built in maze game, i bought outrun and fantasy zone to go with it, cant remember the store (probably dixons) but i remember i was in sunderland at that time so it was bought as something to play in my hotel room (staying at the swallow), ended up dragging it all over the country in my suitcase.

I forgot about that maze game, that had a snail in it or something and was a hidden game on the console from what I remember, I think they un-hid it on later one ?

fantasy zone was fantastic too now you mention it.

My mate had the one that took games on a card, I think he had hang-on or something like that

    p.s. I liked zillion.

The Master System was also my first "next gen" console. Remember playing Space Harrier on it in Makro and being totally blown away by the graphics. Ended up selling my Spectrum +2 to buy one. Mine has a built-in maze game but came with Hang On on one of them little cards. Had a few games, memorable titles included Space Harrier (obviously), Out Run, Zillion, Enduro Racer, Action fighter, Transbot, Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars, Black Belt, Wonder Boy and a few others. Also had the light phaser for it as well but to be honest it wasn't that great.

Not a bad machine but ended up selling it and buying an Atari ST with the cash

Does any body no why the console manufactures don't include the built in games any more? Whether it is'nt cost effective or some thing else because it was a great attraction to people, as they always had a full game to play if they could'nt afford to buyt one.

I suppose it's not cost effective, most companies these days won't give something away for free if they know people will pay for them. They may not be built in, but it's rare someone buys a console without any games anyway.

The SMS was the first console I had and I lost most of my childhood in Alex the Kidd in Miracle World and Shinobi World. Zillion 1 was excellent (I'm still stuck on the ROM I've got) and the sequel wasn't half bad. Transbot kicked arse, it even came with a list of cheats in the manual

well speshal i suppose your right no companies want to give away free games but alex the kid was a game that they should have charged for as it was so cool and well ... addictive, i wonder if they ever plan on making a much more advanced sequel for one of the new consoles because the would be jst quality.

I've still got mine and plug it in now and again SMSII with Alex Kidd built in. Emulators are all good but can't beat picking up those rectangle joypads and having a bash!

Kula World was one of the best games for the PS1, I still play it every now and then.

I loved my MS when i first got it. In fact the MS was the start of my love affair with collecting consoles and games. I have to say the least quite a few games now and various MS versions.

    Great Console...
