A man has died after being run over by a car in Liverpool.

Police said the victim was trying to hail a taxi in Walton in the early hours of the morning when a private hire cab drove past and made a U-turn.

The man grabbed the roof bars and was dragged 20m along Walton Road before being thrown clear and run over by a second vehicle. The taxi drove away.

The second driver did stop and the man was taken to Fazakerley Hospital, where later died from his injuries.
