To get a number from orange, you have to register with them. They will then provide you with a number. If your really set on not giving over details, i'd get the phone unlocked and buy a sim card for another network which don't require your details to be registered, i.e anyother network thank orange

The PIN number is stored on the sim card m8.

Read above as the PIN number has nothing to do with the handset being locked/unlocked.

What handset is it that you are going to use m8 ??

Its a nokia 6230i on orange handset can i put a code in it to unlock to different networks.
It only asks for a pin code when i try a sim from other networks but when i use my friends orange sim it comes on straight away.
Thanks again everyone it may just be eaiser to buy an orange sim but i would ideally like to go on to 02.

You should be able to unlock it useing the sticky in this section, im sure ive done one of them useing it.

Are you sure it is asking for a PIN code and not a restriction code ??

The PIN code is a sim security feature, so if it is asking for this then this code is what the other person has entered in the sim card himself. You need to ask the person the sim belongs to if they have a PIN on their sim m8.

If they do then just enter this and it should work, unless it needs unlocking. It will then ask for the restriction code.

when i put in another sim card it says phone restricted enter 4 digit pin will the advice above get me pass this restriction if so will i have to put in a 02 sim card in before i enter the code.
and if this is the case when it asks which network do i put orange or o2.
sorry for asking what might seem simple questions but im not very clever with phones and i dont want to damage it.

ok, the phone you got is on orange so you select orange for the network, you enter the code with no sim in the phone.

I couldnt remember if the sim had to be in or out ..lol..so i just tested it on an old nokia 3410 i had lying about with no sim, and it unlocked.

When you enter the last # it will/should say "Restriction Off" or words to that effect. Once the full code has been entered and the above message has shown on the display the handset is then unlocked. Just turn it off and enter the sim you wish to use.
