basically i got my mirror backing for my pug, its come as a dark primed unit, now i am jsut wondering about painting it, how many coats of paint should i use, cuz someone at work told me about 5 with an hour between each coat and then 3 coats of lacquer, jsut wondering if this is right or not.

It depends on what sort of paint your using

LOL, ermm i dunno supposed to be a simple jobby picked up from halfords in the same colour as the car is in, nothing expensive

The dark greens aren't a right good coverer so at least 3 coats of base colour, should be fine with 20-30 mins between coats.
A half coat of laquer followed by a good coat and a final wet finish.

Make sure you flat the cover off before you spray it, grey scotch is as abrasive as you want to go m8.

You might want to consider applying a coat of adhesion promoter to it before it's painted to save it flaking off.
