    Question Sat Nav Florida

I have spent the last hour trawling through the threads and i am still none the wiser so i will ask the experts for help!!

I have got a price of £80 to hire a sat nav during a two week holiday in florida ( the site i contacted have none left for the time i am there).

Two things to ask, does anyone know of any similar sat nav rental sites? if not, is there another way of doing this, ie buy say a tt3 and upload florida maps??? doe's it work like that? Any help or enlightenment would be gratefully received.

In reply to your question your probably better off getting a pocket pc and a gps receiver with tomtom and the florida map, then when you return use it with the great britain map.
Or borrow one from a friend!
    hope this helps.

BOTH REPLYED THE SAME TIME LOL.

Hi m8, The best way of doing this is.Without renting is.

Buy a PDA with bluetooth. Also get no less than a 256 memory card.

And get a Bluetooth Antenna, the ones that last 24hrs on one charge.

Then get tomtom 5 off the net,and a flroida map.

This is my set up,and i lent it to a m8,who went to florida for 3 weeks, and said it worked fantastic.

Mio 168 PDA is good and cheap, has inbuilt satnav antenna, (no need for a bluetooth one) works well with tomtom, I've had one for about a year, and got one for a mate who went to Florida last year and it worked a treat - apart from newbie user error - " it just stopped working, I was in the hotel and I couldn't find any satellites !!"

You need to have a clear view to the sky to receive satellite signals, it's ok through glass though.

Not tried any others though - am battling with the new PDA from Mio the A201 but I can't get "software" to load. Any info from our DF brothers and sisters would be appreciated....

Need more info post here or pm me.

    Wanted Re: Sat Nav Florida

Thanks for all the replies, this last few days I have been using my brother in laws tom tom go classic and have found it to be really good. It has all the traffic light and speed camera locations. (could save a fortune in fines and extra insurance premiums)

I have decided to buy a tom tom go 300 and i am in the process of finding the best price on the web.

If any DF members have any "sites" where i can get some usa (Florida) maps a private mail would be gratefully received.

ps I do not have access to newsgroups
    Cheers

You'll have to buy one as there are no cracked maps for the dedicated units and it will need an activation code when installed.

My sister has a tom tom one and had to buy us map (about £120) worked well over there. Maps only work on one machine as they are coded to the machine they are registered on.
best option if you've got the know how is gps receiver. saves having to buy individual country maps.

I have a PDA with TomTom loaded with GB maps, when in the States use Route66 software which I bought of ebay about £20 and it works fine.
