Info Unlock Seagate 10Gb HDDs without the unlock key

Found a tutorial on xbox-scene forum for unlocking xbox hdd's (Only the 10Gb Seagate St310014ace model) that have been locked and for whatever reason (broke mtoherboard/duff eeprom etc.) the drive's couldn't be unlocked - until now

    http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=466408

The tutorial is easy to follow, and simple to build the interface (i got all the bits from maplin for under a fiver (apart from the strip-board which i already had).

Worked fine and i've now got a working 10Gb drive to use in a spare PC.

Not everyone will be interested in this method, just thought i'd draw it to peoples attention to it.

If you try to build it and get stuck let me know and i'll try to help out.

    Regards,

    Northernbloke

PS all credit goes to the guys who discovered this method in the first place. I'm just sharing the info.

I'd sooner throw away 10gb than stick it in my computer.

    Good find though.

your choice m8 - personally i find a 10gb drive a good cheap size for building pc's for family that will struggle to ever use that much

I'm with you on that one. Very handy for pc's that don't need much space. Most people I've done an xbox for aren't very technical and don't have high end pc's (think old P3s). 10Gb extra in their PC is an added bonus of having their box chipped.

Some good info, but i usually remember to unlock it before I take it out
