Mortal Kombat Or Streetfighter?

ive personally had alot of arugements with mates as to whats better SF or MK, i was a bit too young in the early days of SF and MK so i cant really comment but i think SF was much better in the 2D days but MK is much better in the 3D era.

just my 2 cents, whats your opinion

Street fighter all the way

TBH the 3d versions of both games have always been kinda sucky, but in 2d street fighter is king (well, id like to argue in favour of kof but it seems we arent inviting snk to the table )

The dreamcast is home to some excellent 2d fighters, i enjoyed most of the 'mash up' titles, like capcom vs snk, marvel vs capcom etc

While i still have fond memories of the mortal kombat games, I find they havent aged well at all, yet street fighter (and kof dammit) maintain the same gameplay magic

That is a difficult question.

I played an absolute crapload on SFII Turbo and MK2 on the SNES. Both classic games.

I'll probably have to go for Street Fighter though. Many, many hours I played as Ken.....and my SNES controller NEVER broke, no matter how many times I threw it across the room, cos that game fcuking cheated!

I think there both good as each other, both of the games have something that the other doesn’t for example i love the fatality's both top games and they will be remembered for years to come

Streetfighter any day for playability, MK for gfx (especially the special fatalities).

Had them both on the snes and would definitely say SF, it was more fun and more playable. MK definitely had better graphics and some of the fatalities were great, my fav was Scorpio taking his mask off and incinerating his opponent.

Was it MK that did that test of strength after so many fights?

Mortal Kombat for me! The "real people" in the game was amazing on the snes and made it much more real than the cartoony ones in SFII.

no contest. Had to be Street Fighter 2. Without a shadow of doubt the daddy of 2D beat 'em up's in the 90's. Mortal Kombat was good but it just felt awkward and wooden in comparison to Street Fighter 2 especially with all the special moves etc I definitely put in more game time with Ken and co than I did with Sub Zero and co.

SF by a katrillion miles.

I was one of the first in my local area to own Super Street Fight II Turbo from the states on the SNES.

Had to buy another sodding converter for it as well, as my current one at the time wasn't sophisticated enough to bypass the region lock! So all in all, it probably cost me 90 odd quid! Tis the most I have ever spent on any one game.

A lot of money back then. Especially to a teenager.

Oh and MK was/is shit.

Comparing SF to MK is like comparing Pro Evo to FIFA, no contest. MK has nice graphics and gimmicks, SF was refined and took a lifetime to truly master.

Street Fighter II! Its so good that I still have my SNES hooked up to my TV in 2006. I wish I hadn't have sold my SFII Jamma PCB now!!!!!!!!!!

I never could get used to a block "button" in Mortal Kombat, whereas in SF2 you just hold back and it feels more natural like that.

Street Fighter was easily the best at the time. It was unbelieably playable. I put a hell of a lot of money into that cab in the early 90's.

Mortal Kombat was good but a bit of a one trick pony with the fatalities.

Its a shame that they have not been able to make a good 3d version of either.

The best 3D fighter of all time would have to be dead or alive or tekken

Mortal Kombat at the arcades and Street Fighter 2 on the snes. I think I only played SF2 twice at an arcade.

Without a doubt StreetFighter II is the daddy of all 2D fighting games.
I think that Nintendo was a far superior console than the Sega and as such the ported games were reflected.

MK was the best game by far i think, loved playing the n64 version and loved the special fatalities

Street Fighter 2 is definately in my Top 5 of all-time favorite games. A true argument settler, and test of skill and nerve (if playing against a good opponent). MK was just repetetive and most fights could be won with the old sweep, jump in, sweep, jump in...tactic or Sub Zero's classic freeze, uppercut, freeze (before the opponent has time to get back up), uppercut tactic..Cheap ass tactics that caused more arguments than solved.

Streetfighter even evolved over time (dragon punches no longer made you invincible for instance) which made you change your playing style, and all the characters had their own specific strengths and weaknesses.. What can I say? and all-round supergame!
