Righty.
As per usual. I have a problem with my PC.
Now, if anything is plugged into the USB port. Router/Phone/USB Key. The bloody thing wont start unless i pull out whatever is in there and restart the system.
How do I solve this one please?

are you trying to say your computer won't restart whilst there's something plugged in to USB, or USB wont work until you restart?

The first. Actually it wont even start up when something is in the USB port. It just stops on the first BIOS screen and dont go any further

Is USB set as the first boot device on the bios?
Is your cpu an AMD Opteron? is so, you might want to check here
I'd have a quick scan through your bios and if you don't use usb keyboard and mouse just turn the legacy support off anyway, also check your boot sequence to make sure usb isn't in the list
if that don't do anything, give us your motherboad model and that might help us find something for ya

Nope. First boot device is hard drive

Its an ASUS PC-DL Deluxe.

Hello, first thing I'd do is flash the BIOS, then, well, it could be something as simple as a powersupply issue, how big is it?
Does it boot when you totally shut the system down, and start it up?
Oh and Hi Possy!
“If I asked you to have sex with me, would the answer to that question be the same as the answer to this question?”
Nope. It freezes straight after the memory check.
I suppose I could try flashing the BIOS I just worry about cocking it all up.
Is there anyone on here that has flashed an ASUS PC-DL Deluxe Bios/updated it as I'd rather be on the safe side it that became necessary. I've checked it all up on the website and it looks reasonably straight forward but does anyone have experience with following the instructions and it all going tits up?

before you go upating your BIOS it might be best to eliminate as much as everything else as possible. It would seem your board is a dual processor board, are you sure your power supply is adequite?
.. hey chronus

Dunno. I assume so but I'll check the power supply tonight when I get back from work

I am sure it is just a Bios issue. My computers both boot from Hdd as the primary and if I have something in the usb port it will not startup.
I believe some machines can read a USB drive as a floppy in terms of a boot method. This is how I loaded my SATA drivers without having a floppy drive to do so.

I see. I assume that is still an issue then?
Are you aware of any way around it or you happy to leave it as it is?

Alright. Checked the power supply 550W surely that is enough for the system. Is this definately a BIOS issue then. If so is it required for me to intsall a floppy drive on my system as there isnt one installed, also there is no way that no floppy could be causing the problems is there?
[live=BlondeDan]name[/live]
Yes 550 is more than enough.
I checked ASUS site, and in one version of the BIOS updates they do mention a USB issue fix Fix system hang on POST 52 when attached USB card reader of 'ASUS USB 2.0' and BIOS support USB20 feature so it could be related.
Not sure about the FDD requirement, I guess you could also burn the file on a CD.

iv'e heard of this happening from non powered hubs but not straight out of the back of the pc so to speak
it does sound lke it might be a bios issue to me and i don't think a floppy would make a blind bit of difference but it might be worth checking that the floppy is disabled in bios ( i'm pretty sure that some usb devices were regarded as floppy devices in some fashion )
