how to get rid of mice ?????

ive got mice in my house and there pissing me off bigtime on a night scratching around
i have trapped some ,poisoned others but does any body have any ideas if there anything i can use to help keep them out in the first place ?

and before anybody says get a cat ive already got two big dogs who will eat it

have a word with your local council , dunno if it costs , but they may be obliged to do it under the "Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949"

If they're in your house then their almost definately getting food, make sure anywhere they could be getting food from is blocked to them.

If it's mice then they dislike garlic, if it's rats then they hate catnip.

trouble is i practically live in the countryside so they are field mice which only come in to nest inside because of the warmth not because they have found food .

OK, well, it's not a good idea to poison them because there's a good chance they'll die inside one of your walls and that'll smell. Also, if you poison a mouse and one of your dog finds it and eats it it could kill your dog. (plus it's cruel).

Filling any holes is obviously a good preventative measure, they tend to go in through holes where pipes enter the house.

Put a bucket where you suspect they may be, make some steps out of something or a ramp leading up to the bucket and put food in it, they should jump in but not be able to get back out.

As I said before, they don't like the smell of garlic, they don't like peppermint oil or bleach either so you can put these in places where you think they go inside your house. (Obviously the bleach needs to be put in a glass container of some sort and only put in safe places.)

marmite on mouse traps worked for me i caught all 3 i had when i moved here, then i went round the house both inside and out an mastick'd all the holes and cracks never got anymore

I use a ferret when either a mouse or rat gets a smell of it they soon abandon there nest.
and a ferret will usualy come back to you easily at the offer of a some dogfood.

we did a food hygene course at work and the guy said a baby/teenage mouse can fit through a hole the same diamater of a pencil, and a rat through the size of an old style 10p. i found that pretty worrying

you get really humane traps now, ones they can get in but cant get out then you can release them.

and as for getting a cat, the only mice we ever have are ones the cats bring home.

Buy a few of these sonar thingys that plug into the wall socket.
We had field mice in work,when biulding was going on roundabout.Installede these and never had a problem since.
They will only chase them away to another building,but not really your problem.They were about £20 for 3.

You need to try and find where they are coming in at and block it. Good luck trying though.

when you get rid of them try and find out were they are comin in and block up the holes with wire wool or brillo pads they cant chew threw them

The thing most people dont know about mice is that they are incredibly vain. Thus by by setting up a trap with a camera watching it you can draw them into the open...and to their death!!! they cant help but get in shot. View my instructional video posted HERE

I had a couple a month back.... Place traps with choccy cake in it, within 2 hours, WHACK!!! little fcuker was gasping.. buhahahahahahaha nowt more satisfying than seeing something suffer thats left crap on your surfaces!!

Dont even bother with the council as they told me its my responsibility to get rid of them but they sent someone out to see how they were gettin in.. He didnt know!

had a problem with a mouse a few years ago , Annoying little bugger too . Used Humane traps and when caught threw it across the road in the park . FUCKER came back 3 times ( Same distinguishing marks ) . Dad ended up flinging him in the wheelie bin

If caught throw the bugger a good distance away or kill it ( humanly, of course )
