For many years now, Digital-Forums has remained a totally free service for the majority of users. They have been supported by a minority of VIP users donating to the huge costs of running such a large site. It has been noticed that there are a small number of “high use” members who have been using the site for many years now and have not seen fit to donate. Due to the ever increasing costs of running such a site it was decided that steps should be taken to monitor the none VIP members
Earlier today some may have noticed a small downtime on DF (2-3 mins). This was due to the quick install of a small script that enables admin staff to keep track of posts and browsing. All none donators will no be scored as follows…
Viewing a Thread = 1 point
Replying to a thread = 2 points
Viewing a Thread entitled “NSFW” = 5 points
Viewing in cheapskate corner or BST = 5 points
These points are to be considered to be equal to real pence. When a users total pence add’s up to the same amount as a VIP donation (£20) – a flag will be created against the user id. Then admin will then contact the person to question their high usage of the forums.
Unfortunately you cannot see your own usage. The script only allows it to be seen by moderators. Obviously none of this applies to VIP donators.
Paying by Paypal
For those interested in becoming a VIP member you may be interested to know you can do so by paying by Paypal. Co-incidentally there happens to be an great offer that DF users maybe able to take advantage of to discount the VIP cost.
It is not publicly known yet but on Monday April 10th there will be a big marketing campaign from the post office. They are launching a new collaboration between royal mail parcels, ebay and paypal called the “Online Retail Network”. Basically it is a initiative to have a one stop account for ebay, paypal and the royal mail for your parcels. All controlled by one credit card type thing. These cards can be picked up at the post office and registered online. Now this is the interesting part…. These cards have a unique number on them that can be used once on paypal for a £5 discount. The other interesting fact is that although this new service is not officially released yet, these new cards are actually in the post offices now and they will give them out if you ask for one. So anyway for an easy £5 discount just go down to your local post office and ask for an “ORN card”. I just hope you use it on your nice new VIP donation!
