His sisters, Kirsty, 17, and Lyndsey, eight, his 21-year-old partner Sarah Wigham and their four-month-old baby son, Luca, were also in the Escort.
An 84-year-old Manchester man, driving the Toyota was also killed. His 79-year-old wife was critically hurt.

The tragedy happened on the A6 arterial road between the villages of Plumpton and Stoneybeck.
A Father's Day card to Mr Stott from baby Luca was at the roadside. It read: "To my daddy. With love and kisses and a hug or two, from your little boy who thinks the world of you."

Next to the card lay a small blue teddy bear, with the words "My first teddy" on its front.
Another card read: "To you all, just to let you know we are thinking of you. Sweet dreams."
Cumbria Police are still trying to establish what caused the collision, but it is understood one of the drivers lost control and the car crashed almost head-on into the other.
Betty and Derek Stott, grandparents of Ricky, Kirsty and Lyndsey, visited the accident scene and described the family as "popular and loving".

Mr Stott, 73, said: "They were a great family, so popular and loving. I used to torment the young one, Lyndsey, and she used to torment me back.
"Ricky and his partner Sarah had just given us our first grandchild."
Mrs Stott, 66, added: "Lyndsey loved swimming and Kirsty was just like any other teenager. She loved going out with her friends. She was really popular and had lots of friends.
"Ricky and Sarah had been together for about a year. They had just moved into a flat together at Christmas, before Luca was born in February.
"Everyone is just devastated, it's a complete shock." An inquest into all six deaths was opened and adjourned at Carlisle Coroner's Court on Monday.
