    Default Remote Desktop

Just a quick question, is it possible to turn a computer on and off using remote desktop, the only option i can find is to disconnect.

    Cheers

i cant recall from memory, but im fairly sure the run shortcut is available from the start menu...

have u tried using the shutdown command from either the run line or command line.

    Shut Down the System

Although shutting down the computer from the Start menu is faster and easier, the shutdown command can also be issued at a command prompt to shut down the computer. The shutdown command also offers parameters to log off a user, restart the computer, and abort a system shutdown. If you ever have to boot to the command-line to troubleshoot a problem, you'll want to know how this command works. To shut down the computer and experiment with other options:
    1.
Close all open programs to avoid loss of data.

    2.
Open Command Prompt from the shortcut created in the previous section or by clicking Start, pointing to All Programs, pointing to Accessories, and clicking Command Prompt.

    3.
At the command prompt, type shutdown -s. Press Enter or Return on the keyboard. A shutdown dialog box opens.

    4.
To abort the shutdown in progress, at the command prompt, type shutdown -a.

Other options include -r to restart the system, -m \\computername to shut down a remote computer, and -l to log off of the computer. To see all the options, type shutdown /? at the command prompt.

To turn off, restart, etc remotely the best thing to use is this excellent little program coded by Jorgen Bosman:

PowerOff 3.0.1.3 (It's tiny and does not need installing :-) )

Turning on the PC remotely is a little tricker, you need a motherboard that either has a WOL socket on the PCB or one like a modern mobo which will allow you to do WOL via the PCI bus. Then it's a matter of getting the MAC of the NIC and using that to send the magic packets to get the computer powered up.

Well you can't switch a pc on with remote desktop but shutting down can be done by ctrl-alt-del and choosing shutdown.....IIRC it's ctrl-alt-end in remote desktop.

Did a bit of searching and found this Here

Has the GUI version of Shutdown and the string for shutting down whole networks.

Not that I understand why anyone would want to do that

I have made my apologies in the previous thread, this comment was meant to be light hearted, and calling me a cunt is way out of order.
I thought as being a member of the DF admin you should show a little maturity, this is clearly not the case and judging by your age I can see why, fucking grow up.
I’m not prepared to lower myself to your level, I have no problem with you, and although I think calling me a cunt is way out of line, and at my age I’ve been called it quite a few times, I’m prepared to accept your cheap comments .
Lets just let it go now, and if I post in the future asking for help just ignore my post if you don’t want to help.
