My PC wont turn off after shut down

Im running XP sp2 and recently when i shut it down it doesnt turn off any more it just stays on the windows shutting down screen and i have to hold the power button down to turn it off. It also doesnt restart so i have to turn it off physically and turn it back on. What can i do to sort this out? Thanks for any help.

Sound like one of your apps or processes isnt shutting down correctly, try press CTRL/ALT/DEL before you try shutdown,see if there is any progs not responding.

try closing them down one at a time until you find the one causing the probs

Had same problem awhile back, prob turned out to be my ethernet card dont know why, I just removed it and put it back in pc was fine after that, only other time this happened was on windows 98 someone was using my connection, if you have a ethernet card worth trying you never know....
