Last night I ordered a Nikon D3100 kit with the VR lens.

I wanted a Nikon, I've used an old D100 at work for a few years for close up photos and in that time I have moved on to using it in manual.

I have thought about buying a DSLR in one form or another for a while now and after reading a recent thread in which a Nikon D40 was offered I started reading up on the D40, then the D40x and so on in newer models and newer prices. I have received a small bonus at work which just about covered the camera & lens kit. Tonight I have also ordered the Understanding Exposure book, a Lowepro bag and a uv lens for protection. Really looking forward to when it arrives - they will attempt delivery tomorrow (UPS) but I will most likely be out.

A mate bought himself the D3000 around Christmas time and we hopefully be off out to photograph stuff together.

Received the D3100 the other day and I've just found time to set it up. Tried a few hand held shots in my living room with the vibration reduction on and off - impressed with the vr results on a 2.5s exposure. Hopefully the weekend after next I can get out and take some photos.

My (2nd hand) new to me Canon EOS 5D Mk2 arrives in the next hour (it's nearly 1pm). It's only had 2,554 shutter actuations so I expect it last me forever!

Got my first dslr last saturday , a d3100 and from research on the net was shitting myself just thinking about using a dslr. How wrong was i !!! The d3100 is a joy to use and the question mark help button is great to explain what each button/setting does . Using the vr kit lense 18 - 55 i believe . Using a 16gb ssd . Now looking to grab a decent bag and maybe a tripod and lense uv protector . May splash out on the 200mm nikon vr lense . Bargain 110quid on amazon at the minute . Progressed from the green box to the p and sometime play with a and s but total manual is very hit n miss . I nees to do some more homework and have plenty of more play time . Thought this would make a nice hobbie , especially with 2 lil kids running around and growing up so fast . For anyone concerned the nikon d3100 is a peach especially for beginners and its bloody cheap on isme with 10% of at the minute and nikon doing £30 cash back too untill may

    Thanks to Mod23

(I have a used 70-200 F/4 on its way, but nothing for landscapes).

OK a little update, I think I have now decided to stop buying any more kit

    Canon 1D mkIV
    Canon 1D mkIV
    Canon 500D backup camera

Canon 8-15mm f/4 fish eye zoom
    Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 mk2
    Canon 24-70mm f/2.8
    Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS USM
    Canon 300mm f2.8 IS L USM
    Canon 50mm f/1.4
    Canon 100mm f/2.8L
    Canon 1.4x II extender
    Canon 2x III extender

    Sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 lives on the 500D
    Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM EFs
Canon 18-55mm IS kit lens for the 500D (sat in its box)

    Canon 600EX RT
    Canon 580EX II x2

ok a 400mm f/2.8 would be nice but I don't know if I could part with the 300mm as it is just so damn good and handhold able and I turned down a 5Dmk3 last week at 2nd hand 5dk2 money, kicking myself now

To be honest I thought I would have too but the mk4's work and I would like them to make me some more money this year before they are replaced the 2nd hand value of them won't get much worse so no point replacing them. They paid for the 16-35, 8-15 and the 600EX RT flash. Never mind an extra £1.5k of deposit on my Audi A5 and a trip to New York for new years eve so last year was pretty good I hope this year will be as well. We will see where we are at for the start of next yeah and I keep getting a few more weddings coming in so the 1Dx would be beneficial in the ISO department.

I think I would like to replace the 70-200 with a mk2 as well. aghhh
