    Default Website creating business

I'm looking at starting a part time business creating small sites for clients. Although I'm quite ok with the web site creation side of it my hosting and server knowledge isn't so great.

How would I go about hosting a large number of sites? And then give some of the clients access to edit the content?

Do any of you have a similar business?

I'm not using them myself yet but I'm thinking about it. Their deals look pretty good.

I used to have a reseller account with 34sp.com that I had a load of sites on.... could be what you're looking for ?

Prices start at £15 a month.

If any of you guys just need space for development etc i have a dedicated server i use to host a few sites.

Its got about 80gb free on the hard discs and more than enough bandwidth etc.

As this is DF i could hit you with a small reseller account for free.

I recently moved hosts from a VPS with www.powervps.com to a reseller account with www.clook.net You get more for your money with powervps the reason I moved was I wanted UK based hosting. Support is excellent from both companies with responses taking minutes usually!

    I second pug306d's recommendation of www.clook.net (P.S. I don't work for them!)

Have been with them for about 1 1/2 years now, after a nasty experience with my previous host's support disappearing into oblivion, along with some of my clients sites!!

Clook are super fast with their support, as they have both UK & US based servers & staff - someone is always around to help you. Their reasonably priced, although you'll find cheaper - I seriously doubt the service & support will be anywhere near clooks level

I run a little webdesign business on the side. I'm not going to publicise my prices right here, as they can and do vary tremendously between clients, depending on several different factors, but I have a standard hourly rate that I quote. If you want to know what this is PM me, I'm happy to share for people in the trade, but my specialism is designing back-end database driven solutions, so it may not fit exactly with what you are trying to do - we are code monkeys not designer pansies

Reseller accounts basically give you an extra admin panel that let you set up different sites, each with their own domain names, login details, bandwidth limitations etc.

This way, you can give (intelligent) clients (if their is such a thing - joke direct access to their website hosting, email account control etc. without them seeing/knowing about any of your other sites.

Its pretty much like a normal hosting account apart from that, and the hosting company you choose should still take care of all the technical stuff like security updates etc.

If you think you'll need to host any more than one site in the next year, its usually worth opting for a reseller account, as the starter packages are often not much more than standard hosting prices...

i have a few in the pipeline to do but not for definate...

i assume these accounts all let you monitor usage and stuff too?

    No probs

yup, if you go for a host that uses Cpanel (for end user domain management) & WHM (master admin interface), then each domain has its own logs section & everything accessible via a unique cpanel account login.

You, as the admin can use WHM to add/edit & manage all the accounts/domains, & view usage etc.

Their are other reseller software packs, but I don't have much experience with those, apart from Ensim on a clients Windows box which I absolutelly hate with a passion! But that's just a personal note, choose what your happiest with, although I would recommend sticking with a *nix based host as long as you don't develop in ASP/.NET etc.

    Good luck with the sites
