    Default Redundancy?

Work have offered a number of people voluntary redundancy (altho that aint what the're calling it). They've offered £10k tax free but I was wondering what other companies have offered, particularly the likes of Rover and Peugeot. Personally I think 10k for 16yrs service is a disgrace but looking at a few sites its half a weeks wage per year for ages between 18 and 21 then 1 weeks wage per year after that, so thats only 14 and a half weeks wages. That only works out at around £6k.
I dont like the job but at 35yrs old and un-qualified in anything else I just thought some input from others might be useful.
    Should I wait?
Would I get more if its involuntary?

They closed our stockport and dronfield manufacturing sites (bakery's) last year and they got 1 weeks pay for every year they had worked, suppose if you have been there 25 years it would be getting upto around the 10k for some, but our place offered help in paid training courses and activily helped people get jobs locally etc.

Has your company offered any help in that way?

you got to watch out with the staturatory redundancy pay tho mate it is 1 weeks pay per year but this is capped to £290 a week so if you were working at £500 per week (nice work if you can get it) they would only have to pay you £290 a week still. Its a right con mate so i would go for the Voluntary redundancy.

(also heres a tip make sure that the company follow the redundancy act to the book i.e. Consultancy period etc cos a big company in our area a few years back didnt go thru the 30 consultancy (think it is 30 days) and then all the employees got there staturatory redundancy and then sued the company for unfair redundancy and got another payoff ;-)

unfortunantly i didnt work there tho :-(
