the more you spend the better a card you get - second hand X800 XT PE cards still go for £130+ and will woop the ass of those £60 maplins cards. It just depends on what the OP is wanting to use it for.

very true,....to a degree,a 60 quid card will perform just as good in an older agp board, the difference would be un noticable to the naked eye, different when basing it round modern more compatible stuff

Sorry but thats just not true as alot of the games computation (especially in 3d games) is done by the graphics card.

Those £60 cards will get frame rates well below an X800 at the same settings on modern games, which will make them juddery and unplayable

If you don't mind second hand as you can't get em any more (I don't think) then I'd go for an X800 XT PE.

Have you considered e-Bay? Plenty of PC gamers will be switching to PCI Express now and will have their AGP cards up for sale. There may be retail bargains to be had but my guess is that supplies of the good stuff will have dried up by now - but that's only my guess. I'll ask my son when he gets in - he's well up on PC graphics cards and peformance PCs in general.

consider the x1600 256 - available in agp for about 75 quid. Good enough for doom3, hl2 medium settings 1024x768. won't do all the eye candy at higher res, for that you need the x1800.

    hth.
