You need a BT line, your exchange needs to be unbundled, and your line length from the exchange needs to be less than 1KM if you even want to stand a chance of getting the 16Mbit.

^^Do you think they'd know whether or not I were outside the 1km or not (ie, if I said I were going to switch over, they're not gonna go "no you're not, you can't receive it" etc)?

Knowing my luck they'll just cancel the fuckin thing. Also, is it dodgy ringing up when using a dbox?

I doubt they'd have a clue mate, they don't know what they're doing themselves let alone anyone else lol

It won't take them any more than 30 seconds to see where your property is in relation to the nearest BT exchange, whether the person you talk to can be arsed to do that check or not is another matter entirely.

Also, is it dodgy ringing up when using a dbox?
Bit late to worry about that mate, they can see exactly what data goes down your line if they can be arsed to look.

Thanks for the heads up biggy
Well i called them again yesterday and they gave me the same offer but got 4mb bband now. Not as good as some but happy enough for another 3 months. They told me that bband speeds are changing soon. 1 mb will become 2mb and so on.

make sure you check that you are paying the lowered price after your 'im canceling' phone call,.... i did it a year ago, was suppose to be getting 2 meg for 9.99 a month.... i wasnt, they were still taking £18 a month from my account... i never realised, im not one who can be arsed checking ,...but luckily this one time i did....

went to seaside yesterday with family, seen a 'fish and chips,2 for a fiver' on a notice board outside a pub,...thought, thats seems good... so the 4 ov us go in sit down, i go to bar and order fish and chips 4 times, 2 lagers,2 cokes.... thought, £10 for the dinner, about £6 for the drinks... ye, was happy about that... got food and drinks..very nice... payed with credit card and left...
was only when i got home and pulled the recipt out of my pocket,..i was charged £27...
rang the pub... apparently i had to ask for '2 fish and chips for a fiver, twice'....
conning bastards.... should of checked the recipt and not just took it as fact...

anyway, what im saying is,.... make sure you check your statement, and that you are getting it for the lower price....

I rang *** today and told them I was thinking about moving to Orange broadband. To make me stay they upgraded my 4MB service to 10MB and for only £17.50 a month saving me £89.00 quid for the year! Best thing is I don't even have an Orange mobile!

I also got it dropped to £17.50.. They have now cottoned on to all the haggling and only giving half price discount to customers...

I can live with paying £17.50 for 10mb......... For now

just rang them now as i'd had two bills off them

    1 x £34.99 for the 10mb bb
1 x 88.90 for family pack plus phone (plus a charge for the sports witch had just finished 12months free)

anyway reduced tv to select pack £16.50 (including phone line)
and got the 10mb bb reduced to £17.50 for 6 months (she said ring back in a months time as they have new deals coming out)

so all in all i'm quite happy (probably time for a 2nd db0x)

oh and to john keymer, you'd be better off getting a dedicated newsgroup account as i get 1.3mb per second from giganews)

I did this a few weeks ago. I threatened to switch to a cheaper 8mb adsl package... bastards then looked up my distance from exchange and told me I would only be able to get 4mb.. which didn't help my haggeling. Managed to get down to £19.99 instead of £24.99 for my 4mb broadband.. that'll do for now. Maybe I should have said "I've had adsl before and I DID get 8mb"...
<Lionel Hutz> Oh I am, am I? Is that what you think? Well if that's what you think, I have something to tell you. Something which may shock and discredit you. And that thing is as follows. I'm not wearing a tie at all.
