    Question PC Overheating

Morning All, i am new to these forums so apologise if i talk rubish.
Basically i am having major troubles with my p.c overheating.#the spec is as follows
    Asus P5P800 Socket-775 I865PE ATA - Sound Gb-Lan USB2 800FSB SATA
    Intel Pentium 4 660 3.6Ghz Socket 775 800Mhz 2mb Retail Boxed
    4X Corsair (VS1GB400C3) 1024MB, DDR400 / PC3200, non-ECC, 184 DIMM, unbuffered, CL3, 64Mx8 DRAMs,
    Seagate ST3300831AS Barracuda 300GB 7200RPM SATA/150 8MB Cache
Asetek VapoChill Micro - Ultra Low Noise (Intel LGA775) Includes asetek fan regulator; Ultra Low Noise 92mm fan; Front mounted push-pin CPU clip for Intel LGA775
    5 x standard 90mm fans
It runs fine if only checking emails or on the net etc but start anything more demanding, such as solidworks or gameplay and it overheats within seconds and shuts down, i have taken the sides off and have a fan on the floor pointing straight in and still it does the same.
I have looked into buying a water cooled system but am reluctant to do so if this isnt going to solve the problem,
I have had the pc a little under a year and it has always been a little temperamental but its only the last month it has started doing this, which makes me wonder if its because of the excesive temperatures we are having lately but theoritically that shouldnt make any difference.
Can anyone give me any information or tips on where i am going wrong here.
    Cheers
    Gewboy

    Welcome to the forums mate.

If you access your Asus bios there will be a section dedicated to temperature, and what your machine is geared up to do if the limits are reached.

Check the settings aren't too low, and adjust them if necessary.

If that doesn't solve it try removing and cleaning the HSF and then reapplying some decent thermal paste like artic silver 5 and then reseat it. If neither of those work and you have decent airflow through the case then it may be a faulty heat sensor

Right then it obviously knows i have been talking about it because now it wont even boot up properly, it will load up and then you can sit and watch the temperature rise until it hits 100 and then shuts down. Getting right annoyed with it now and dont know what to do.
if you go into the bios which i aint very good with by the way you can see the temperature rising rapidly in there as well, so i really dont know what to do?
any suggestions, i have some artic 5 at home somewhere so will try that tomorrow after that i am gonna throw it out the window.

either the CPU isn't being cooled - look at HSF and reseat etc or the temp is wrong in which case depending on how long you've had yr kit and what it is its RMA time

There are normally 4 push pins around a 775 processor holding the heatsink and fan in place. If one of these wasn't down enough if would cause the heatsink to sit at an angle on the processor core, so make sure they are all down firmly and in line with each other.
