Another nail in the PSP coffin?

Just read on the BBC that Sony are to release the 'Mylo' (My Life Online).

Initially it will be a USA only device, but the question asked is why they are releasing the MYLO when the PSP can handle the same functions?

Hmm... it seems a bit pricey (~£183) for what it is and with newer mobile phones coming with wifi, I can't see this doing too well personally.

Yeah, that's what I gather yet the article says:
"The device cannot be used for mobile telephone calls and as such there is no need for a monthly contract or subscription."

The majority of wifi hotspots you've gotta pay for anyway, so it's still not a one off payment for the Mylo, you have to pay (in some form) to use it.

Seems like they're losing the plot with this Mylo

Remember this is USA 'only' at first. But they do have free WiFi etc... by the plenty in dense communities.

wifi skype phone, thats pretty cool. Doesnt look as fast as the psp and the screen is smaller. I like it but doesnt have any features i need, happy with my psp

From what i have gathered about the mylo is that it is just a communicator it wont play psp games.

If you goto the Skype website, they are introducing Skype Mobile phones.

Unfortunately they only acts as Skype handsets, so cannot be used for Moible and Skype called. Start at £140. You will need to be near a Wifi point too, but with Fon rolling out free routers to folks who will share their bandwidth it could be worth picking one up!

I would rather talk into a mobile looking VOIP handset then a Mylo.

Looks like another xda atom but sony's design it wont be a fantastic game machine but pda. I guess its gonna have all pda apps...
