it will run them natively like the PS3 plays PS2 and PS1 stuff yeah. no emulation. It will also run NES, SNES, N64, MD, MS, PCE and presumebly GB/GBC via the virtual console.
Its unlikely it will improve the gfx or increase the resolution as the wii isnt really much different to a cube in the first place.

If they charge the same as Xbox Live, about £4-£5 per game than that would be very nice indeed.

I would love to think that it would be region free for old Cube games, but I very much doubt it, which is why I'll be grabbing a US version. Just hope the Online play will be compatible over here.

If the Wii was to be region locked for Gamecube games, would it not be possible to use Freeloader to boot them? We'll just have to wait and see, I've got a load of JAP/US games so might have to get an imported machine again.

they could impliment something to stop freeloader from working i guess, they may just let it slip really, its not going to affect sales now. i still have my freeloader disk but my modchip can play my original imports, still may come in useful afterall.

I am contemplating just buying a US cube for my US games and getting a Pal 'Wii' on release.... However Nintendo being Nintendo the UK will probably miss out on some titles which is why I bought a Q in the first place.
